timing chain cover has hundreds of cracks/spiderwebed surface

I am extremely disappointed with having a brand new Mustang after more than 25 years of driving and owning cars that has such an ugly looking engine compartment after just a couple hundred miles driving. The surface of the timing chain cover is really cracked all over and looks like snake skin. It feels awful when you run a finger over it. Also, when friends first see the car and ask to see the engine, it's the first thing they notice. They all ask "Is that supposed to be cracked all over like that on a new engine?" or "Sorry, but look at the junk Ford is selling these days!" It's embarrassing to have a new engine look so terrible.

More importantly, I keep wondering if it's going to crack all the way through and break up while I'm driving and cause a catastrophic failure of some sort. I don't feel safe driving this brand new Mustang. Plus, there's been a really awful smell coming from the car, not that new car smell but a burning sort of smell coming from, we think, the engine. Since the timing chain cover is the only damaged part that we can visibly see, we think it's probably that. We want to find out if other Mustang owners have had the same problem and arm ourselves with knowledge before going to the dealership where we bought the car. Please let us know if this is a common problem or not.

Do we really have to give up our new Mustang with less than a 1000 miles on it for engine repairs already?
