Ranger XLT 4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,000 miles

I bought my Ranger XLT brand new in 1998. Original mileage is 68 almost 69K miles. I do not drive much anymore , as I am now 85 years old.. my biggest complaint is about the transmission when I start my engine cold, everything is working fine until I have driven 10 to 15 miles, then the O/D light starts flashing and shifting is rough, I can stop the vehicle and shut it down, and when I start it up again the O/D

Update from May 25, 2018: light is off. I have tried shifting into D/2, then the transmission does not shift, and on several occasions, I have driven home in drive 2. I really like this truck and do not intend to sell or trade it, as I am on a fixed income, and I expect this truck will last me the rest of my driving days. My local Ford dealer has not been able to correct the problem. Ford needs to correct this problem, or I will have to drive it till it falls apart, ( or I fall apart) LOL.

Ranger

  • Automatic transmission
  • 165,000 miles

We had the reverse repaired, the valve body replaced and nothing seems to repair this o/d light coming on while driving 55-60 down hwy. If you turn truck off and then on again it seems to reset.,. The repair shop inspected our transmission when he repaired reverse and said no apparent problem was found. Seems ford needs to fix this pain in the butt truck. I have seen alot of this on the internet anyone have a cure for this problem besides setting fire to the damned thing. Really like the truck.

Ranger XLT 2.5L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,000 miles

Only occurs after driving for a few miles, o/d doesn't flash until then. If you turn the engine off the process starts over again.
