My tranny started slipping horribly on the 1-2 shift. It shifted out of first just fine, but when it went to go to second, it didn't. It went to a "free-revving" state and would not accelerate. Finally after many seconds of anticipation and waiting to obtain a speed of greater than 15MPH, it slammed into second and after that, shifted normally. It seems to get worse as I drive. There are only 30,000 miles on the truck, and it has been very reliable except for this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions/tips that might help besides replacing or rebuilding the transmission? It is a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge Extended Cab 4.0L V6 2WD 5-spd auto. If the transmission model helps anyone, it is the 5R55E (I already researched that).
