Brake and ABS lights turn on at same time without an apparent cause, this happens after driving van 5 or less minutes at a low speed. Once the engine is turned off and restarted again, both lights remain off, and again, after driving the van for a short distance brake and ABS lights come on again.
The ABS and red brake and trac lights come on at the same time, stay on until I turn the car off. It will go for weeks than it comes on again, same thing. Its been almost going on for almost two years.
About 2 years ago I have noticed that the ABS and brake light would come on sometimes now after driving a few miles they come on constantly now. I spoke to a Ford service advisor and was told it would cost me over $600 to repair and that there was a recall only for certain states. This does not seem fair to other Ford owners to have to pay for something that Ford has a default on and seems to be a problem with in a lot of these vehicles. I can not afford this repair and I'm sure most people can not afford. Please look into this.
ABS light came on while driving on highway 7/24/2012. Had ABS reset a week later. Then on 9/13/2012 while driving 30mph ABS and brake lights lite up. Stopped and checked brake fluid, all full. Restart engine and lights went out.

My 2002 Ford Windstar started to display the brake, traction control and ABS indicator lights, indicating that the ABS system was malfunctioning. This causes the traction control not to work, and the ABS to shut down. Standard brakes still function. At first, the lights would stay off for a period of time when I restarted the car. I would start to drive, then I might hit a bump in the road and the lights would reappear. Now, the 3 lights are on as soon as I start the car or within a few minutes of driving, with or without hitting a bump in the road. My mechanic stated that this is a common problem in Ford Windstar and that an ABS module needs to be replaced at an approx. Cost of $1500.
The antilock brake system light as well as the traction control lights keep coming on. Garage can't tell the exact cause. The booster arm busted, keeping the brakes engaged as driven. The booster arm was replaced and the lights are still on. I reset it, and they reappear after a short time. I now smell the brakes when applied. I've had engine replaced at 101,000 miles, two transmissions, multiple brake jobs, rear axle repaired, front axle repaired, front tie rods repaired. The alignment on my vehicle could only be partially completed.... toe, and another alignment done, but the complete alignment would need a hole drilled in the frame and a bolt moved over - bad design by Ford. I've also had to have the oxygen sensor replaced at my own expense. The vehicle is a ticking time bomb, piece of crap.
ABS brake lights on, after research, its a common problem with faulty ABS modules. Subframe is rotting out with the mounting points of the subframe peeling away. O/D light coming on intermittently, after research, common problem points back to a bad vehicle speed sensor. Mileage does not seem to be a factor. Faulty hard lines for rear heating. Multiple cracks in lines cause radiator fluid loss. Very very common problem, looked at 10-15 Windstar in pull-A-parts lot, all with faulty hard lines.
Approximately a week ago, the #10, 15 amp fuse was blown. Replaced it with an approved fuse and blew right after I started van up. I had noticed some liquid on garage floor about 2 days before the fuse blew, the "brake" light on dashboard was lit up. I checked the brake fluid level and it was very low. When I added fluid, I noticed there appeared to be a leak of fluid on the front, underside of the master brake cylinder. I had a friend who is a mechanic look at it and he told me the master cylinder could be bad, but looked like the pressure switch was where the leak was originating. Upon further inspection, he noticed there was a wire harness that was soaked in brake fluid and beneath another one was wet. He attempted to clean both of them and replaced fuses, but after using the brakes the first time(going out of the driveway) I heard a "pop" and the fuse was blown again. This particular fuse controls the odometer, speedometer, the ABS light on dashboard. The amount of fluid going onto the engine is a good probability of a fire starting when the leaking brake fluid is on the hot engine. This seems to be an increasing problem and needs to be recalled.
The ABS, brake, and traction control lights all came on. Turn on and off intermittently, but stay on longer each time. Mechanic says it may be the ABS control module and hcu.
For the past several years my van has has intermittent problems with the brake lights on dash appearing while driving the car at various speeds. Once I stop the car and turn it off the lights will usually disappear but sometimes will come back within minutes of restarting car. This tends to happen during warmer times of year versus winter. Also I have noticed a problem with brakes even right after getting them replaced. The mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the brakes?? around the same time this started to happen my cruise control stopped working. I had recieved a notice from Ford about cruise control recall but when I called the local dealer and told them that my cruise control was not working and I was wondering if it had something to do with recall they said no, that was not the problem.
The ABS light and brake light comes on. I hook up the computer and the code read C1185. I read online that this seems to be a problem. If there is that many problems there should be a recall.
The ABS yellow warning light and red brake lights come on at random driving times. Once lights appear, the ABS system no longer works. We have replaced the brake module two times and problem returns within days of replacement.
I keep having intermittent problems with dashboard warning lights: Yellow ABS light, yellow trac off light, and red brake light. Please note: On approx July 17, 2012 I took my Windstar to have this problem checked and have Ford recall 09S09 service done. The quick-service manager refused to check the ABS control module connecter even after telling them three times that it is required as part of the recall. I was told by a service advisor trainee, to bring vehicle back if problem persists and take to regular service dept. I took the vehicle back to same Ford dealership for resolution of this problem and was told there is a $92 diagnostic fee. I agreed to fee to see if the repair they recommend is same as repair which should have been covered under recall, and left van there on August 14, 2012.
When driving my ABS and brake light show on the dashboard. This has happen in the past. They turned off for awhile about a year then came back on. They are not on all the time but have been on pretty consistent, my mechanic tried to fix the problem but alas still on.
