This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The ABS and brake warning lights come on intermittenly. Problem appears to occur more often in warmer weather. Does not come on when engine started but after driving both warning lights come on. This has been a problem for a few years.
These trouble lights light up all the time turn vehicle off and restart lights go away til the next time. I don't know what the problem is. They come on constantly now is this dangerous?
Brake light and ABS light stays on in the vehicle at all times at the present time. At one time the light would come on and off (was worse when it was humid out). Have replaced numerous brake parts.
Right after I had the recall for 3 different recall the front end, brakes, rear axle completed my ABS light, brake light & track off lights all light up on my dash all at the same time & stay on. I have a photo of this. After I turn van off for awhile (it needs to cool down) they go off. I called Ford several times about this and they said it had nothing to do with their brake recall or front end recalls if I wanted to pay them to check it out I can bring it in. Amazing that I never had any problems with my van until Ford started fixing the recalled items.
ABS and brake lights come on simultaneously at random on almost every trip. Once on, they stay on until car is shut off. This seems to be related to a loose connection somewhere in the system because they usually come on when I hit a bump. This never happens when I am stepping on the brake pedal.
While driving my 2002 Ford Windstar on July 6, 2012, my ABS light and brake light came on simultaneously and stayed on for approximately 20 minutes until I arrived home. The next day, July 7, 2012, when I started my car in the morning to run errands the lights were not on. Later on that day, I started my car and began driving and after about five minutes of driving once again the ABS light and brake light came on and stayed on until I shut the car off. This has continued to happen as of the date I am typing up this complaint to you. It goes on and off whenever it feels like it and is very random, just like so many other problems with our 2002 Ford Windstar. Our electrical system in our Ford Windstar also works whenever it feels like it as far as locking the doors, opening the doors, etc. It is difficult to ascertain what is causing the ABS light and brake light to keep coming on so randomly as there are days it does not come on at all and I feel this is something the Ford company should be responsible for looking into. I would respectfully like my name added to others who have reported this problem and are demanding a recall. As I understand it, this could become a very serious problem and even involve a fire. I would appreciate your serious consideration when looking into this recall. Thank you for your serious consideration.
ABS light and brake lights comes on after driving a few miles. Does this periodically each time it is driven. Was told by Ford dealership & independent repair shop that it was a faulty ABS brake module & that the regular brakes were fine but ABS was not working causing warning lights to illuminate.
Brake and ABS dash light illuminate. Once the vehicle is shut off then restarted the lights do not come one for a little while, but they do come back on. The codes that come up are directed to faulty ABS module. We were told there is a possible fire risk involved due to manufacturer's defects. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Noticed at this time and several other times that the ABS light would come on and I would loose this system and brakes would lock and also have no brakes intermittently. Worse in hot weather than in cold.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the ABS and brake warning lamps illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 122,000.
ABS light came on intermittently at first. Around 100,000 miles. Then it came on solid... with regular brake light on as well. Ford dealer said it was the ABS control module.
I was driving on a street and the car in front of me came to a sudden stop. I immediately had to brake and then the ABS light and main brake light came on and stayed on. I took the vehicle to a dealer and they told me that the ABS module was bad and I asked them if the knew why and they told me that they did not know. I then asked if the vehicle was safe to drive and they said yes but I would not have ABS brakes.
I was driving on the road and it had been raining earlier when I tapped my brakes to go around the curve I started sliding into the oncoming traffic and almost hit a van. I tried to steer back into my lane but it wouldn't let me.if the van hadn't been able to get out of my way I would have hit them. I wasn't able to get traction until I was off the pavement on the side if the road.
My van ABS light and brake light comes on and goes off all the time. It has been staying on more often. It doesn't matter what speed, temp, time, or if brakes are applied. Is my van safe and why hasn't Ford done anything about this problem. I have read hundreds of complaints on different site.
First, the power steering wasn't working and parts of it had to be repaired and replaced. But the worrying thing is that the ABS yellow light and the red brake icon on the dashboard often come on and remain on while we're driving. That is worrying, as we don't know if it means the brakes are faulty or not. A Firestone mechanic said it was because of rust build-up, but I don't like that the yellow ABS and the red brake icons come on, because who knows if that means the brakes won't work or not. From my online research, this seems to be a common problem with Ford Windstar, and needs to be addressed!
As the outside temperature rises, the brake and ABS brake warning light came on and my brake effectiveness reduced and took much longer braking distance to stop the minivan. This is a safety issue that may lead to crash or accidents.
