My wife fell asleep ran off the road struck a utility pole and a large dirt embankment. The air bags did not deploy nor did the belt tensioners, she hit the steering column so hard she it broke the column and broke her sternum. Our granddaughter was in the front passenger seat the air bag nor the tennsioners deployed resulting her back being broken in two places and also her foot was broken. I contacted General Motors and they sent a man to download the computer information they sent me a copy of the info and later contacted me saying the info showed everything was working properly. Pryor to the accident I had the auto in for the recall on this problem. I also had it in for another recall for the headlights and they had to remove a large part of the front to do the repair and done a poor job of putting it back together I returned it and they finally got it right, in the mean time the service air bag light came on and they repaired that.later after the accident I went back to the dealer and questioned the body shop manager about putting it back together properly and then told him about the accident then he had nothing else to say. The auto was a total loss after a length of time wife and granddaughter got out of hospital. This car was recalled for this very reason. My insurance company paid my granddaughter $95,000 for her injuries and commented that they would probably sue GM to get that back.

Current symptom: Service airbag message comes on periodically when driving. The light goes off when I tighten the driver's side airbag wire harnesses. The new fix per recall bulletin no. 14030B: Dealers will remove the driver and passenger side air bag wiring harness connectors and splice and solder the wires together. The old fix before the formal recall: Dealers removed the passenger side air bag wiring harness connectors and spliced and soldered the wires together. Prior to the 2014 recall, GM thought that only the passenger wire harness was faulty. In 2011 I participated in GM's voluntary fix (just the pass side) before the formal recall ' now GM states that my vehicle doesn't qualify for the correct recall fix of both wire harnesses. They strongly recommend I pay $350 to have the wire harness repaired the way the recall outlines.

Service air bag light comes on periodically (started in Jan 2017). Light only came on for about 10-15 seconds then the air bag indicator would light up. Took to dealer 2/2/17). Dealer indicates that there is a problem with the passenger seat air bag sensor. It goes on and off sporadically. Dealer stated that putting electronics on seat can cause this problem. There is nothing in the manual about not putting cell phones/pads/etc on the front seats. Upon researching issue on internet, this appears to be a common issue with 2008 Acadias. Per dealer, this is not covered under any warranties, recalls or service bulletins. Seems to me that a faulty air bag sensor should be a safety issue under a recall. Issue has progressively gotten worse.

Acadia

  • 164,000 miles
We have a 2008 GMC Acadia that now has approximately 164,000 miles. It was recently found out that a water leak has caused the airbag system to be come completely disabled. Water leaks in these model vehicles are a known issue and GM has put out technical service bulletins about these leaks and how to fix them. Because our vehicle is over the mileage limit the local dealership is saying GM will not warranty the leak repair or the damage to the airbag system from the leak. We are now faced with a bill of $1600 to repair the airbag system and unknown amount to repair the water leak and any other damage caused by it to the vehicle. What I do not understand is why a leaking sunroof with admitted factory defect issues from the manufacture has a mileage limit for warranty repairs. I can understand a time limit. This issue has now made our vehicle completely unsafe for my family to drive and ride in.

While driving on the highway, both side air curtains deployed without provocation. It was frightening. I notified GMC. They inspected the vehicle that has no evidence of rollover whatsoever. They have told me that they will not concede any malfunction. Because of this, the repair is not totally my responsibility because my insurance will not cover it because there was no accident.

My passenger side airbag only shows that it is "on" about half the time that someone is sitting in the passenger seat. It seems like it works for someone over 200 lbs., but hardly ever works for someone less than 150 lbs. Most of the time when my 150 lb. 14-yr-old is seated in the passenger seat, the passenger side airbag displays, "off." This occurs while driving or stationary. I have called GM and they won't pay for fixing it, but highly recommend that I pay to have it fixed.

There are many recalls on this vehicle. Did dealership says that they fix them and yet they're still not resolved. These issues include the electrical system, the airbag system, the stabilitrak system, issues with water leaking through the sunroof, L]]as well as water leaking into the interior lights. There are also issues with liftgate working correctly. All of these are issues with my Acadia. I need to know what to do to handle this properly. This car has turned into a death trap. I have been trying for years to get these things resolved. I have got to run around the entire time.

When it rains, water leaks from the air bags. Water also leaks from the light fixtures and dvd player in the middle seating. Water also comes in somewhere under the dashboard/electrical panel area, onto the passenger side floor. The last time it rained, there was standing water on my passenger side floor. This has happened while driving it in the rain and while it was parked. Stablitrak and traction control lights are constantly coming on - even after looked at. - I have pictures of lights on. Also constant service engine soon light problems.

The airbag light has been on and off for the last two years or so until recently when it is on consistently. When I have brought it in the past to be looked at at the GMC dealer, the light was not on so was told they couldn't do anything. Now, that it is on, they say it is a safety hazard and isn't working properly on the passenger side, but wants to charge me over $900 to fix it. Says it is not under a recall, yet other GMC Acadias (same year) did have it recalled.

Intermittent "service airbag" light. Started coming on spring 2016. When front seat passenger sits in the seat and vehicle is moving the airbag light will go on and off and the service airbag message appears. Now the "service airbag" light is always on. Took it to dealer who said its the passenger presence sensor which costs $1300 to repair (after reading all the complaints this appears to be the highest quote). I already paid $110 for the dealer to diagnose the problem. Now the car has failed Virginia state inspection and I will be forced to sell it or repair it. I need to get this fixed as soon as possible but with all of the complaints I don"T know why there hasn't been a recall. My VIN# doesn't fall within the range. The symptoms are the same as other vehicles covered within the scope of the recall. I would hope that it would be replaced under #10085D: Customer satisfaction - airbag readliness light/service airbag message - replace connectors - (Sep 1, 2011) or #10335B: Special coverage adjustment-airbag readiness light/service airbag message-reroute wire harness/replace connectors - (Mar 14, 2011) 2007-2009 GMC Acadia. How can I get some assistance with this? GMC should fix the sensor at no cost to consumer.
