I first thought the problem was a leak in the power steering. The first time I filled up the storage tank and it seemed to make it a lot better, however, after about 2-3 months the same thing occurred: locked up at slow speeds, usually in a parking lot where you really need it! Filled the tank again, reduced the issues but after several months it was back to not just nuisance but bad bad! Our grandson wanted to use it but I deferred due to the power steering issue. Did not want to fix it due to the outrageous prices a dealer would charge, $1500 to $2000, so I just lived with it. Now, it is almost always bad and I need to see a dealer!

We had power steering fluid leaking on our garage floor. Found MANY issues in regard to this, but just bought our used Acadia about 4 months ago and did not think this was still an issue with our used car because it should have been covered under a recall or manufacture warranty by now.

There was a GMC technical publication put out (PI-0029B) that covered this issue and when we brought this up to the dealer that we bought the vehicle from, they did not act like they knew of any problems and told us that the power steering was fine. They later called us and told us that there was an issue with the PS pump, rack, and hoses...... No SH**!

This was all replaced under a manufacture warranty, but my question is... How can we buy a used car with such a known issue that had not been checked for one of THE major issue like this?

Just wanting people to know that if you buy a GREAT used car, you may run across issues like this. Maybe previous owner did not bring in when there was a recall, but either way..... should not have been resold with the known issue that was NOT fixed.

Pretty upset with our new (OK, used, but new to us and less than 100k when bought) vehicle that had to have over $2000 of work done already. Does not look good to a dealer to be selling something like this.

Update from Aug 5, 2015: Updates done under "Manufacture Warranty". Need to look for this because, I am not sure why they did not do a Recall of defective parts, but is an OBVIOUS problem.

Cost us $100 for the fix and had to be pointed out!!!

Our 2010 GMC Acadia, was recalled for power steering. Once in, the dealership said we need a new power steering rack. ($1600). I see there are many people that have the same problem. GMC needs to take care of the total problem, not just the cheap part.

Losing steering in the middle of a turn from a busy highway is not very safe, I also lose the power steering while trying to park. I have had some close calls with losing my steering. I have had nothing but problems with this car since I bought it.

Steering began what I call "locking up" others say "loss of power steering". Filled the fluid, took it to dealer. They found leak in boot area. Leak fixed, problem continues...DAILY. Even though we purchased bumper to bumper coverage and vehicle is still under warranty, this IS NOT covered. Can't wait till we unload this car. Every day I am scared when I make sharp turns, never know when I will have to use full strength to negotiate a turn.
