The contact owns a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact went to a mechanic inquiring about the backing plate located near the emergency brake. The mechanic informed him that the backing plates often disintegrated. The contact believed that it was made out of an inferior metal and should not have failed at such a rate. The emergency brake was not working in his vehicle because it was rusted, which the contact attributed to the defective backing plate. The dealer stated that they had no issues with the backing plates and there were no recalls for this issue. The current and failure mileages were approximately 43,000.
