My dad was driving my 2008 Honda CRV when he suddenly was unable to control or stop the vehicle. It took him 100 feet to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to my home where it has been sitting ever since. At the time I didn't know the name of the parts that failed. However, it was the driver's side rear stiffener that was so corroded the control arm on that side fell out. I found a 2019 recall for this issue in Canada, but not for the U.S. I have complaints with the NHTSA, Honda, and have requested mediation with the A.G. in my state. When I talked to Honda, they only wanted to talk about the fact I don't have a warranty on my vehicle. They said in some cases they can request goodwill, but not for me because I am not the original owner. I asked if they could e-mail me something to that effect, but they refused.
The vehicle was purchased in Ohio in 2015 and manufactured at the North Liberty plant in Ohio. I asked the local Honda dealership about the part and confirmed it was the control arm that became detached. I told him the situation and he suggested I call Honda corporate. I had called the only number I have for America Honda, which is on their website.
