I traded in a Saturn that cost me thousands every year because it was one big electrical problem after another that no mechanic could seem to fix. So, I buy a Honda Civic to have a whole new issue, the roof is a mess. The paint is just fading away in 4 different spots. I agree with the comment that says it looks like it was scrubbed with steel wool. The car has 3 palm sized white spots between the windshield and the sunroof and one twice as big right on top of the car behind the sunroof. They just appeared one day. My car sits in a driveway when not being driven. There is no explanation for this fading and it looks awful. I won't buy another Honda. This was my first Honda and I have heard they run great and last awhile. I wouldn't say it runs great either. It vibrates a lot, has a tire that seems to have a slow leak forever, (even though that's been fixed lol), and the brakes have an on and off issue. One more thing, don't ever run the air conditioner and try to start out uphill unless you have several minutes of your life to waste. I take very good care of my car. Now the car is starting to look like hell. This is the 7th car I have owned and nothing like the paint fading away has ever happened before. I hope someone reads these complaints and it stops them from buying a Civic or better yet a Honda.

I normally buy new cars and keep them for 7-8 years. My last vehicle was a Toyota Corolla and I passed it down to my daughter after 7 years. Still looked great! I am very disappointed with the Honda Civic - I bought the vehicle b/c I read reviews and felt this was a reliable, long lasting vehicle. However, after six years I am embarrased to drive. Looks like I have not taken care of my vehicle at all!! I am not in a position to buy a new car and frustrated that HONDA will not stand behind their product.

I will never advise anyone to buy from HONDA ! I simple paint job would solve the problem, but I guess it is too much of a bother... they would rather lose a customer for life!

well my car's roof looks like it has a terminal disease, I have big white patches all over it. I never knew honda had a problem with their paint . why pay $ for a car when the paint is going to come off I never would of purchased this car if I knew the paint would look like this.

Some many times I submitted the claim to our local Honda Body Shop, but they said that the guaranty did not cover. This problems began when the car almost had two years and a half of being buy. The car "sleep" under a roof , so there is no reason why this fading can happen. Honda want to charge me $500 to re-paint that portion of the car, and I is not fair, because the problem is the quality of paint and clear that Honda used.

Noticed that the paint was looking very bad and dull on my 2008 Honda Civic about 5 months ago. Over time it has become worse and worse everyday. The roof is really bad and spreading. Looks like white spots on my car where the paint is fading off. I am really upset that this is happening since my car is only 4 years old, and looks like crap. I am taking it to the Honda dealership today to see what they say. Honestly if they don't pay to have it fixed, I will never buy a Honda again. I bought this car brand new, there is no reason the paint should be fading this quickly. It really upsets me.

I have owned Honda vehicles since 1989, and have never had this problem so early in the life of a vehicle. Paint is flaking on the hood, trunk, and along the window frames. The dealership seemed to feel it was not a big deal and normal. I purchased this car for the Honda name and reliability, and am sorely disappointed that after 4-1/2 years I have to pay for a new paint job. I will never buy another Honda or recommend one.

2008 Civic EXL with 4 large spot of paint that has faded down to the primer. My Civic is just over 4 years old with about 40K. The last time I had the Civic serviced at the dealership, I asked them about the paint and was told that it was out of warranty. They then tried to BS me and tell me my problem was from bird dropping. When I told the service adviser that I wash my car weekly and store it in a garage, so had no reply. Anther service tech told me that Honda is aware of the problem but is claiming no fault which is standard practice. Well it will be my practice never to pay $21,000 for a Civic ELX in the future. The new Sonatas look great and carry a 10 year/100K warranty. That will be my next auto purchase.

For now I am just letting the paint continue to fade so everyone can see what a cheap paint job Honda does on their cars. I have a 2008 so it really shows bad for Honda.

Civic EX V-Tech

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

The paint Started to fade on the roof when the civic was only 2 1/2 years old (Sometime in 2010), and it had no more than 70,000 miles on it. I washed and waxed the car myself 2+ times a month and never took it to an actual car wash. Its not like the car was neglected at all prior to and during the issues. I bought plenty of car care products and the paint still continued to fade. My step brother has a civic one model older than mine and the same thing happened to his car. The paint started to fade around the same time and it just looks really bad. Car Paint Should NOT fade that quick. My dad's 2000 Ford F-150 looks nicer than my car.

Honda, Looks like someone made some budget cuts somewhere down the line and forgot to let us know about it. Relief is requested, recall 2007-2009 Honda Civics for Defective Paint. Or i promise you, you will lose customers... who will want to by a car that looks 15+years old after the first 3 years???

I purchased my 2008 Honda Civic brand new and after 4 years the paint is fading and peeling on the roof around the sunroof. It is white and splotchy appearance and I took it to the dealer to complain. This should be covered under warranty because there is no way that a car's paint should fade and peel in such a short amount of time. I've owned other Honda's and did not have the same experience with them so there has to be a paint defect. I keep reading that there are many other Honda owners experiencing the same issue and something should be done about it. Honda Motors should take responsibility and correct the defect.

Paint starting to fade on roof. - Car is only 3 years old. Dealer where I purchased the car is offering to pay 75% to paint car - which leaves me with a $450 bill for something Honda should have painted correctly to begin with. After some internet research seems to be a bad case of clear coating the vehicle during production. Am thinking of taking this to Honda Corporation and see what they will do to remedy the problem.

The paint is fading on the roof near the front and back windows. The vehicle is ony 4 yrs. old and has been well taken care of over the years. Learned that eventually the paint/clear coat will begin to bubble and peel.
