I have an 04 and 07 Hyundai Santa Fe and they BOTH have the same front end rattle, it is the most nerve racking noise. The brake calipers bang around....If you install new brakes and calipers its quiet for a little while and then starts again.

Santa Fe LTD 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,000 miles

I have the same noise in the front end that I have been reading about, going over cracks in the pavement.

I carried it to the dealer at least 8 times . They would not admit a problem . until I wrote letters to every Hyundai executive I could find on the web. then I got a call to take it to the dealer again and met with a factory rep. I showed him the problem, as I had shown the dealer many times . I had solved the problem long before that but they would not admit it. The problem is the front brake calipers suspended on 2 pegs that rattle up and down when I go over a small bump or crack in the road . at 15 to 25 mph. . you can reach through the opening in the wheel and rattle the caliper. But the best test is to drive over the same cracks with very slight pressure on the brake just enough to turn on the stop light. That will tighten the pads against the disk and the noise will stop. The factory Rep. had them replace caliper and pads and it was OK for another 4000 miles. and it started it again . There is some grease applied between the peg and the hole in the caliper that dampens the movement but it only last a few thousand mi. I suggested the pegs it rest on are undersized and should be replaced but they didn't want any suggestions from a cranky old man. After the noise started again I was tired of fighting with them . My blood pressure could not take it . The car now has 30000 mi. on it (8 years old) I don't drive it much ,It is too irritating to hear the noise . If I have some one ride with me I just ride the brakes a little to keep from having to explain why such a nice car is so loose. But if they are considering buying one I let them hear the noise. If it brakes off and I crash I have told my wife to contact a lawyer. I get letters weekly about the good deal they will give me on a new one . I had rather drive a 2007 that rattles as a 2015 that rattles. I still drive my Ranger PU. instead .
