Purchased a 2013 hyundia sonated limited mid Feb. Had 46000 on it. It was a lease return in terrific condition. Test drove maybe 15 miles ,a couple on the freeway. thought this was the greatest ride ever. In the next couple days I noticed that the steering seemed very light and touchy, and needing a constant adjustment to keep it centered in a lane. First thought was the tires , which were brand new. I checked the internet and found that there were many, many people experiencing this wandering problem. Thought I found the remedy when people suggested That I have the electric steering adjustment changed to "Sport" I had that done. Now the steering is firmer, however it had nothing to do with the wandering. I've had two Sonata limited cars,a 06 and a 2009 . This 2013 is one scary animal. You don't want to be looking at your dashboard or anything else except the lane your in , because you will find your self drifting into another lane. It looks like (from checking the internet) that there is no solution to this problem. I'm afraid that I wont be able to adjust to this electric steering problem and its going to hurt my wallet yet again. I would love to hear any suggestions or possible remedy's.

The electric steering is too sensitive. Any slight movement and you are all over the road. If you look down you can run off the road. It is very dangerous.

Sonata Limited 2.0t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

First let me say I have been very satisfied with this vehicle. The problem started about a month ago when I started feeling like the steering would stick. Mostly noticed on the highway, When making a slight correction to keep the car straight form the steering wheel in a neutral position the first move to the left or right would feel like the steering was sticking. This causes the vehicle to jerk left or right with that first move. Very annoying.

The vehicle has been to the dealer twice now and even though the dealer has been very pleasant to work with, the problem has not been corrected. The steering mode has been set to the sport mode which masked the problem slightly but has not corrected it. It's too bad clause I enjoyed driving this vehicle prior to this problem. If it doesn't get fixed, the vehicle goes. I spend too much time on the freeway to deal with this.

Update from Mar 25, 2017: I now have 63K miles and the steering is still horrible. On the highway, the steering is sticky. Any correction move left or right the steering sticks and causes the car to jerk. Anyone who drives my car can't believe I put up with it. I am still being told this is normal. I guess this will be my first and last Hyundai.

Sonata Limited 2.0t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 416 miles

I purchased the Hyundai Sonata Limited on 3/26/13. Driving home from the dealership after taking delivery, the car was all over the road..couldn't keep the car straight... I thought it was me...the next time I took the car out, same thing. I called the dealer and he told me I was not use to the electric steering....

I have test drove other cars that had electric steering and I was not all over the road. This is a family car in which I drive my kids. This car is not safe. nor do I feel safe when driving it. The best way to describe it is how others put it. "the wind blowing you from one side of the road to the other" Why doesn't hyundai step up to the plate with this very serious problem? This car is an accident waiting to happen! Has any of you had the problem resolved? Please be safe Sonata drivers.
