I noticed my driver's seat wobbling and found that two of the brackets that hold this seat to the floor were broken. The left front bracket broke once before but it was welded about 2 years ago. From what I've seen on the internet, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of complaints regarding this same issue. A recall needs to be issued as this is a huge safety concern for myself and my family as well as others who own Jeep vehicles. Please issue a recall before a fatal accident occurs. Please let me know if there is anything further that I need to do; and I look forward to your prompt response in this regard. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. While parked, the contact noticed that the metal rail for the front driver side seat was fractured, causing the seat to slide backward. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic tests. The contact added a bolt in order to hold the seat in place. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

I was driving my 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport on the highway going 55mph when my drivers seat went back unexpectedly almost causing me to get into an accident. (the problem was the front frame of the seat just snapped, this seems to be a common issue I have just found out that has been going on for a while, Jeep should do a recall on these as this is very dangerous and I could have gotten killed).

2000 Jeep Cherokee sport airbag warning light illuminates randomly and repeatedly. Not related to actual airbag deployment. It may render airbag unusable. Dangerous condition. Common consumer complaint. All passenger window actuator switches are unusable. Windows will only work at driver panel. Safety issue if passengers have to open windows.very common consumer complaint. Obd error codes are inaccurate (especially when applying to emission control systems P0441, P0442). Diagnosis often lead to unneeded repairs and costly replacement of sensors and computer without cause. Common consumer complaint. Driver seat support structure breaks. Even when driven only in ordinary driving conditions and not stressed unusually. Must be rewelded or replaced. Seat is no longer structurally safe. Common consumer complaint all of these are design issues and not service/maintenance related.

We own a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport with approx. 155,000 miles. We bought it used 02/2004. Sometime in June 2010, just a couple of weeks prior to incident, the driver seat began to make a noise while sitting in it, during acceleration, and braking. We could not find the source of annoying noise and just hoped it would go away. On Friday, July 9, 2010 when my husband went to do errands and sat in the seat he said it felt odd and the noise was gone. Happy the noise was gone he went about his business. When I got into the Jeep on Sunday, July 11, 2010 I noticed the seat was wobbling. I got out and looked under the seat. I found the problem....where the seat attaches to the seat adjuster the metal had ripped almost completely through at the right front bolt. While sitting in the seat it rocks from front left to right rear. The situation calls for immediate action on our part to get it fixed. We are obtaining information (time and cost to fix and amount of time without a vehicle-it's the driver seat not passenger) on welding, new seat, or replacement from junkyard. I am not excited about wanting to use another Jeep seat as I fear same issue will occur. This is our only vehicle. We do not go mudding, four wheeling, mountain climbing, off roading with it. We don't live near a beach or take it to the coastline in order for high salt concentration in air to be a factor. Yes we live in the midwest but salt from shoes cannot reach this part. Of the seat.

As I was accelerating from a stop I heard a loud crack and the drivers side front seat broke from the base mount. The seat broke at one corner but did not come totally seperated. If it had totally broken free it could have caused a major accident as I was in heavy traffic when it broke. I have not yet fixed the issue and plan to do the repairs myself. This sounds like a very common problem for my make and model based on internet forums and I am very disappointed that Chrysler has not initiated a safety recall for this issue.

Cherokee 4WD

I have a 200 Jeep Cherokee sport, 4WD. I also had a 1996 Jeep Cherokee sport, 4WD. Both have the same 2 problems. #1 is a broken drivers seat. The bracket is too small and splits near the bolt holes. You can't drive like this, the current one (2000) started with a small noise when I was exiting the car. The next day it let loose on a bumpy road on a corner. I didn't think much of it the first time with the 1996, which I traded for the 2000, but since it has happened again, I did some research and it is a common problem. I stumbled onto this site: vlane.com/poll/30/2001-Jeep-grand-Cherokee-has-your-driver-side-front-seat-broken-on-this-Jeep problem #2, and more serious is a huge wobble, shimmy, shake problem at around 50 mph. So much so that you feel as if the car is going to be thrown off the road or flip. Also this problem developed on my 96 Jeep before I traded it for this one, and now has started on this 200 Jeep, so again seeing a pattern, I did more research and found more people with this problem. Here is just one site: townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.F0E6F51/0 please help! these are safety issues not to mention possible design flaws that are costly to repair. Thank you.

The front drivers side seat broke at the back approximately July 2003. I had it repaired and I was told that the metal is too thin and that's why it broke.
