I went to leave work and my Jeep was stuck in park. Called the shop and had to have it towed to be fixed. I was told it had corroded due to water intrusion. I don't believe this is a normal problem and it cost me plenty to have it fixed. I have read that there are at least 80 other complaints with the same problem. Jeep needs to do a recall and reimburse those that had to pay out of pocket.

Parking brake turns on automatically when parked even though that feature is turned off. It then cannot be released without releasing the boot off of the shifter, pressing down a lever while the parking brake is on and car is off, switching it to neutral, and then turning the car on. This temporary fix works after about 5 or more tries, and sometimes doesn't even work then. The temporary fix I've found for now until we can get it actually fixed or sold is that once I was able to release the brake, and finally I retracted the parking brakes by entering service mode and now they won't come on. This does create an error message on the screen every minute or so that says the car is in service mode though, so I don't know if a dealership will purchase it in this condition. This problem created a transmission problem, but that's another complaint.

It starts unrelated, The morning I was bringing in vehicle for a software update (it was too old to be updated via online download) because the GPS had no clue where thr vehicle actually was, the parking brake light light comes on. Fortunately it released. So i bring the vehicle in and request the software update and check out the parking brqake issue. THe Parking Brake Control Module is full of water! The dealer wanted about $650 to fix it. I declined. I checked it out pulling out the left rear panels and the control module is the only thing that is wet. I ordered a new module for $87. the plug is not particularly corroded so i cleaned it up. Even after I fix it I will have to bring back to dealer to have it "reprogram the computer" . Normally I would not really care. on my other cars if I use the parking brake once a year it is a lot, but with the module out of comission the vehicle wont work in 4 wheel drive or any other setting such as SNOW.. There is actually a TSB 08-060-16 on water in the PBCM so it mus be common. Unfortunately it makes no reference as to where the water comes from or how to fix and prevent it. There is a recall R27 for water leaking in the power door lift mechanism, but I do not have the power lift option. ALSO the software update did not fix the GPS, Now car thinks it is in TX and doesn't move.

I just had this thing in the shop last month for a transmission replacement, now this. I got in to drive to an appointment this past weekend, and the message center by the speedometer said service park brake, the (P!) light was on, and "BRAKE" was blinking. The 4WD is temporarily unavailable, and odometer is blinking. I have no idea what to do. I'm disabled and can't afford to keep fixing something every month. I bought this vehicle to replace my old Saturn, and have something reliable for winter. First snow fall, and this is what I get. This is ridiculous!

Car was showing Service Parking Brake off and on for two days. This morning, parking brake was engaged & would not disengage. I can shift, but can't move the car. When I press the button to disengage the parking brake, the light flashes on the parking brake but eventually turns back to solid yellow.

Update from Sep 13, 2018: Was able to eventually get the brake to disengage by rocking the car from between reverse & drive. Made it to a dealership where they diagnosed the Electric Brake Module failure. In shop now for 8 days, waiting for part.

I was backing out the drive way and the Emergency brake engaged on its on and would not go off so I was stuck in the middle of the drive way! A message in the dash said "Service Park Brake". I had to have it towed by Chrysler to the closet dealer. It was at the dealer for 4 days and no one had looked at it and they would not give me a loaner. It took me repeatedly going to the dealership and making phone calls to the service manager to get my car looked at and to get a loaner vehicle. They finally discovered there was corrosion in the E brake module and wire harness. They ordered the parts and fixed in a week and a half. I am thankful that I was only backing out of my drive way when this occurred, if I was on the highway I could have been seriously injured.

We purchased this Jeep Cherokee to tow behind our motor home (which it is advertised to do). The parking brake is electronic on the 2014 models. Ours has come on now at least 3 times I know of for sure when it was not turned on. I caught it before trying to tow it. Another time my wife and I both looked at it after connecting to the motor home for dinghy towing to ensure the brakes was off. We left the parking lot of a service station and headed onto the interstate highway only to see the Jeep swaying and smoke from the rear tires. It damaged the tires so bad we had to purchase new ones to continue home on our trip.

Recently, I was backing it up at home and the parking brake came on automatically and stopped me. We suspect there have been a few more times that we just thought that we bumped the switch, but now I realize the may not have been the case.

Just took it to the dealer and of course they cannot find anything and it only happens randomly so difficult to say when it will happen again. We cannot continue to trust it. Not sure if it will happen while we are driving down the road, etc. Certainly cannot afford to buy a new set of tires again! If we had not both checked the light to ensure it was off, think I would think differently. We only have a little over 6000 miles on the Cherokee. Not sure what to do.

Update from Mar 13, 2015: Every Jeep Cherokee owner I talk to at campgrounds are frustrated by the electronic parking brake and they are not sure why it comes on at various times.
