The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled with the transmission shifter warning message appearing on the instrument panel. Initially, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who performed minor repairs to the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle to another independent mechanic where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective shifter cable alignment. The dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

Automatic transmission: Vehicle "hesitates" when putting into drive or reverse or moving forward from a "stopped" position. This happens intermittently - I don't know when I press the gas if I will move forward. This is extremely dangerous when trying to merge onto a highway - though it could potentially cause an accident if the vehicle behind me thinks I will move forward when a light turns green. I have been told that I should contact the dealership periodically for software updates -- there is no way to fix the problem, but software supposedly "lessens" the problem. I had one software update: Problem recurred the next day and continues to be a problem. I am afraid to allow my teenager drive the vehicle because of the unpredictability of the problem -- it's frightening enough for me, let alone an inexperienced driver. This is a safety issue -- no "fix" is an unacceptable response!
