Fifty years, and never a problem like this. I have owned many vehicles in my days, and never a catastrophic problem such as has occurred. A brand new car, and the entire scope of this has been an evil experience, one of which I do not have the energy left to relay. The purchase of extra warranty has not been of any benefit to our experience. I feel like I have been ripped off by Jeep, and in no way will be fully compensated for the crisis. I have lost my confidence in a company that I have previously valued. I intend on doing everything that I can to inform anyone and everyone, that buying from this company will do nothing but leave you in pain. Please look elsewhere if you have not already been screwed by Jeep. No, this rant is not over, and probably will not ever escape from a heart that has been hardened!!!!

Cherokee Limited 2.5L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,238 miles

We were ascending a steep mountain highway returning from a holiday trip about 200 miles from home, when the overheated transmission light came on. There was a double trailer loaded with gas directly behind me when the engine lost all power. We barely made it to the right lane to stop, I was sure we would be killed. You cannot get to neutral with engine shut down.

We called Jeep Mexico. After Jeep roadside assistance got us to a dealer, Diez in Cordoba Mexico, about an hour away, I was told there was nothing they could do, we had to call Chrysler Mexico. Chrysler Mexico said I had a choice, a rental for three days or hotel room. I asked for the rental. They called back at 8.30 pm to say we would have to wait till Monday the 5th before they could arrange a rental car. It's 5.30 pm Monday. Still no call. The dealer let me have the Jeep back to go to a hotel I had to pay for myself. Returned to dealer the next day and they worked on the car till 2pm. They said they recalibrated the computer and all was well. We took it on a test drive, 65mph, 8 to 10 degree uphill climb, and it gave the same overheated transmission light, and shut down. The dealer said it needed a new transmission and it would be four to eight weeks to get to get the part and there was nothing else he could do.

We should call Chrysler Mexico on Monday. They did not give us any copies of any paperwork even though we asked three times. I was stuck with a crying wife, a cat having nervous breakdown, a Jeep full of luggage , and no transportation home. I called a cab a negotiated a $500.00 fare for a ride to my house 200 miles away. I have owned over 35 new cars and have never met with such poor customer service. Chrysler should be ashamed and their poor service and product, and it should be brought to the public's attention in every media possible. Chrysler's US help line had some very nice representatives who assured this kind of treatment would never happen in the US and all would be taken care of, but alas, we were in Mexico, and they could not help.

They gave me the international representative's number. I have called three times, left all my contact information and VIN, but she has not called back. In all my years of car ownership, I even worked for GM, I have never dealt with a company having such little concern for their customers. Chrysler is the worst of the worst and that Jeep is the most disappointing car I have ever owned.

My advice to all who read this, " do not ever think about buying the new Jeep Cherokee and avoid doing business with Chrysler corporation,
