When I first bought my vehicle at the end of 2016 brand new a few months after that the service shifter light came on and all the lights appeared on my shifter. I took it back after a few months and they change the part on it which is seem to work the light didn't come on for a while. But then all of a sudden it comes back on so I knew something else was wrong. Now my transmission light has come on and the car does multiple things for example falling completely dead while driving. Also the car jerks when accelerating especially on highways. It even got to the point when after I was going about 50 to 60 miles per hour when I came to a complete stop the car would no longer accelerate there after. This is becoming a serious safety issue and life-threatening to myself and others on the road. I am scared to drive the vehicle not knowing and any given time when something is going to happen.
About every 5 wks my car says service shifter and all lights come on. Nobody can get it to stay off. Each time this happened I had just started my car and trying to put it in gear. Different times of day some times it had already been driven and others it hadn't.
The shifting while in operation is very rough, jerks hard while on the highway and then the light will come on indicating the automatic function that turns the engine off while stopped to save fuel isn't working. The vehicle has less than 57,000 miles. This has been happening for about a month more and more frequently both on hwy and in town and always while in motion from 35 mph+
Shifter service error message appeared in two occasions within the span of a month. First encounter, was a few days after taking the car off the dealership lot. I was entering the drive away and all of sudden, shifter service error message appeared and all the gear indicators flashed bright red. After the dealership, , I probably put less that 10 miles on it at this point. Turned off the vehicle and restarted the ignition. Put it in drive, this time while stationary and it appeared again. I didn't take a photo the first time, as I assumed it was a fluke. Didn't happen anymore after that till today, May 17th. I started up the ignition and headed on my way off, within 5 mins of my ride, I heard a beep. Looked at the dash and saw the service shifter message again so I drove off into a parking lot to check out the issue. I stopped and went into park. The red indicators were still apparent. I turned off the vehicle 5X and repeated turning on the ignition, put it in drive, service shifter error appears and going into park and turning off the vehicle all while stationary in the parking lot. After the 6th time, I took it slow and it didn't appear. Since the first occurrence, I probably have only driven the Jeep less than 100 miles.
I bought it used and it had 1 recall that was not disclosed and now the service shifter light keeps coming on. I have read 100S of others have this problem with little to no permanent resolution.
Turning at a stop light on a busy road, an alert came up onto my dash that read to shift, car must be in park, however nothing touched my shifter. My car then shut down completely, no time to pull over or get off the road. The power was still on but the engine had shut off. I braked to re start and it sputtered, battery light came on and so did engine light. Tried starting again and after a few sputters, car came on and I was able to get off of busy road. Car has done this 3 times total now, every time the same. Nothing seems wrong while driving, no error alerts or anything.
Jeep Cherokee 2016 "service shifter" light comes on. I've seen a lot of people already post about their Cherokee saying the same thing as well. Called a mechanic shop they never heard of it and recommended me calling the dealer. So I recently took it in to have it serviced. We'll see what happens. It comes on when I start the car or sometimes it comes on while in motion.
Has been back to the dealer 4 times in one year for replacement of spark plugs and ignition coil. Car runs rough and shakes. 53000 miles, have had it since it was brand new. Feel unsafe driving in it.
The service shifter message displays on the screen and you can't tell if the the is in dprn becuase all the lights are red. The car sometimes will not shift out of gear. Or jerks when it finally does. This care hesitates while in motion and as well as when stationary and trying to move. This is very dangerous. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer who stated that the recall they had was only for a software update with the shifter but this issue should also be a recall with them covering the repairs. I have less than 50K miles there is no reason why I should have to cover the expense of replacing the shifter assembly becuase the shifter is not covered under the warranty they sell you.
While driving at regular speed my car has stopped running. I was able to maneuver to the side & wait several minutes before it restarted. My heat has stopped working - I took it to be looked at & was told the "harness" is corroded. My car has $43K miles - how can this be already?
The vehicle is burning oil between changes, it shuts off in the middle of driving on a road because it has no oil. No warning messages or lights pop up. I have almost been hit by other cars twice (with a child in the backseat) because the car shuts down and there is no oil in the car. My screen says I have over 50% remaining until the next oil change! I was driving down the road, and the vehicle shut off and I was almost hit by other cars!
Service shifter came on in my Jeep and would not drive/shift going down the interstate in a lot of traffic. My family could have been killed! cars were swerving around me, blowing their horns, and I couldn't even step on the gas to try to get off the road on to the shoulder. About 30 minutes before that happened my 16 year old daughter was driving. This needs to be addressed immediately before someone gets killed!!!
Our 2016 Jeep Cherokee (latitude 4WD) has been stalling after a cold start. The battery indicator flashes and then registers a message to place the car in P to shift into gear. I have been able to restart the car after waiting 30-60 sec, sometimes while in traffic. The vehicle was at the dealership on 1/14/19 and I was told that there wasn't any oil on the dipstick. The engine is possibly burning oil but there are no indicators or status updates when the system is checked. I was told by the dealership that they are aware of an engine issue with the 2016 Jeep Cherokee. An oil consumption test is needed before the engine can be replaced (if needed). Oil consumption test initiated 1/14/19. Chrysler/Jeep is aware of this issue and has not issued a safety recall. Negligence by Chrysler for not responding to this significant defect and safety issue.
About a month ago, my 2016 Jeep started to stall as I was driving the vehicle. The steering wheel locks and the battery sign flashes, then the car tells me to place the car in park. I shut the car off, wait about two minutes then restart the car. Sometimes I will make it to my destination, sometimes it stalls on me again. It's happened too many times, and I scared to drive the car anymore. It has been in a shop for three weeks now, and there is nothing that they can find wrong with the vehicle. They hook it up to a machine, but no error messages are reported to them.
I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee limited. When I am driving the vehicle and slow down such as to make a turn or stop at a redlight, the engine dies out. This has happened multiple times. I had a diagnostic test done on it, and the test indicated the throttle body needed cleaning or the air filter was dirty. I had the throttle body cleaned and the air filter replaced with a new one. The vehicle is still doing the same thing. The is a big safety concern in that the vehicle has stalled while I was in an intersection making a turn. I am concerned that I will get hit by on coming traffic, if this continues to happen. I do not have another vehicle to drive nor is public transportation available. Jeep needs to look into this safety issue before someone is seriously injured or killed.
