Service shifter message appeared in the center display and is lock in place, not being able to scroll through the menus any longer. Next to the shifter all lights for shifter position are illuminated and you cannot see which gear the vehicle is in anymore from looking down at the shifter. This has happened multiple times mostly while in motion but has also happened while stationary. The message including all other indications can go away with a full shutdown.
Approx. 68,000 miles, owned for 3 years, regular maintenance and inspection. Vehicle in motion on city streets turns to neutral after the first few right turns. Gear shifter automatically shifts to neutral after the car's warning system reads "shift to park" while the vehicle is in drive and in motion. To restart the vehicle, the driver must place the vehicle in park, turn off the engine and restart it, however the battery light flashes. This has happened three times in as many weeks, all while in traffic. When taken to Jeep dealership mechanic, no code shows up on obd. After online research, many owners of Jeep Wrangler, (as well as latitudes) have had this same issue. There is a consensus it may be a result of a poorly implemented failsafe that Jeep installed when the engine oil is low. Allegedly, on Jeep with certain engines (2.4L) they burn oil at a higher rate than what the onboard computers can gage. It appears that Jeep dealerships feign ignorance with this problem. However, when other owners have pressed the Jeep Corp., they say they may issue a recall if enough people complain. Https://www.carcomplaints.com/Jeep/Cherokee/2019/engine/engine_shut_down.shtml
'service shifter' message came on & all red lights on shifter tree while on the freeway no less! it does happen anywhere. 2016 Jeep AWD lattitude. They replaced the shifter and wiring harness once already. A few month later it came back on. Took it in and they stated that they would not find anything wrong. But it is still coming on.
Service shifter indicator comes on- solid red lights appear on the shifter in every gear. Comes on every couple of days. Cargurus has several people complaining about experiencing the same problem. Dealerships seem to not really know what the real problem is, replacing engines, transmissions, shifters- only to have the problem come back for these folks. Clearly, a recall is in order. I am concerned if I take mine in, I will have the same problem as the others, price gouged- with no real solution. Faulty engine with excessive oil consumption. Engine piston blown at 54K, on brand new 2016 Jeep Cherokee, and consequently repaired under manufacturer warranty. Fca and dealership difficult to work with and attempted everything to avoid the repair until I obtained legal counsel. The vehicle still randomly shuts off while being operated which makes it a danger to all. I have also experienced issues with the transmission, which the dealership said stemmed from the electrical system. The vehicle would get "stuck" in a particular and cause the vehicle to "jump" while attempting to idle down. Lastly, the service shifter light has come on. The light comes on while the vehicle is in motion and does not appear to effect the operation of the vehicle. Nevertheless, this is another problem added to the engine and transmission issues. This vehicle is trash and needs to be completely recalled. Shame on fca for selling this vehicle with a ton of defects. Shame on any authority that does not investigate the claims regarding this vehicle, or does it take a catastrophic event to gather your attention.

I have had this car for month, and this has happened 4 times. When idling at a light or stop sign, car completely shuts off and can't be turned back on for several minutes. Dashboard and touchscreen go black and can't even turn on hazards to alert people behind you.
In my Cherokee the service shifter indicator came on. All the positions on the shifter lite up (P, R, D and the + -) this appears to be a problem with this model. I looked at several other comments on line. I was leaving a drive in and when I put it in reverse everything turned red and the service shifter illuminated in my message center. I was able to make it home. When I got home I turned the vehicle off. When I turned it back on everything was back to normal. I had a issue right after I bought the vehicle. It was stuck in park and had to be towed back to the dealership. I believe the mileage was around 2000 miles. I currently have approximately 83000 mile on the vehicle.

This issue has happened seven times now in the last month. Most recent was on 11/14/2019. While driving (in motion) about 25 mph in residential area, Jeep turns off in the middle of the road. Error message pops up on dashboard to "shift to P then desired gear" (see photo). I am able to pull over to the side of the road but car has to be turned completely off. It takes a couple of tires to restart the engine. Unknown as to why this is happening. Took to dealership and they said they could not find any codes and to let them know if problems continues. This is very dangerous as I could have been on a major highway and caused an accident.
While leaving my office and making a left hand turn the car completely stopped mid turn. There was no check engine light on, no battery light appeared and the dash, radio and head lights were still on. A message appeared in my dash telling me to shift into park and then shift into the desired gear. I then put the car in park and tried to restart it 3 times before it started again. Now the car does this on several occasions after being told by a professional that they can't pin point the issue.
I just purchased the Jeep a month ago & it has 43,000 miles. When the Jeep is in gear a "service shifter" message pops up on dash. Once it pops up you can't see your miles per hour until you pull over, shut the Jeep off & restart. I was pulled over & cited for my speed but I had nowhere to pull of the highway to. I feel like it is a huge safety issue. The message only pops up randomly every three or 4 days & everyone I call say they've never heard of this & it nothing comes up when hook up code reader.
While I was driving the 'service shifter' light came on and gear shift lights are all red, P, R, N, D. this happened 2 times in less than 2 weeks. The car appeared to be functioning normally. After stopping and turning car off and restarting the lights went off.
Service shifter light came on. Having to replace shifter and shifting harness. When warning came on all lights came on and was not able to use shifter.
Overheats temp goes up to 240 degrees and the shifter keeps acting up. All the lights on the shifter light up in red both keep happening almost weekly.
Water collects in the spare tire compartment when driving in the rain or going through a carwash. Electrical fire possible due to the components being under water. Welding issue? refer to NHTSA recall R67. This auto is demonstrating all symptoms but the VIN is not included in the recall.
Jeep only has about 50,000 miles on it and the service shifter light keeps coming on...it illuminates my entire gear shift red and the notification takes away my spedometer
My radio doesn't get signal anywhere. I get one station and even it has static. It's not just in my hometown either. When I go on trips it is nothing but static and then you find a station every now and then. I'm not sure what the issue is, but it has done it the entire time since I bought it.
All the red lights on the shifter light up then a "service shifter" message shows up on the screen. When all the lights light up you cannot move the shifter at all. We had to replace the battery because the battery was totally dead from something drawing power after the car was turned off. The lights on the shifter light up at any random time. When you are driving, you have to pull off the road turn the car off take the key out wait a few minutes and then start the car again. Sometimes it takes more than once to do this. The shifter cannot be moved when the red light are all on. This has been happening for several months now but has become almost an everyday occurrence
