This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Service shifter notification popped up on the dashboard. Reading forums it seems like a common issue with Jeep. This issue can be fatal and should be addressed. Jeep dealerships replace the shifter but that often does not address the issue, but costs the owner money.
When driving, an error message popped up and said "service shifter". on the gear shift, all of the lights lit up red (parking, neutral, 1st, 2nd, drive, and reverse). I immediately pulled over. After I restarted the car, it went away. I went online to see if this was a common problem, and there are all kinds of complaints. Many of which, Jeep had no idea how to fix. Most complaints also stated that it went away, only to come back after another 1000 miles or so. If there are so many complaints, and Jeep is obviously having a problem identifying why, shouldn't this be a recall? there is obviously a fault in their product or wiring. This is going to cause serious accidents and/or lawsuits. Please help.
My gear shift prnd letters will randomly light up with a warning being displayed saying service shifter. The light comes on randomly while driving or while parked. The light shuts off when the car shuts off and turned back on but comes on randomly again periodically.
Service shifter light comes on and shifter lights all turn red. Initially would reset after restart, now stays on. Started at 20,000 miles, now at 32,800.
While in motion- car chimes, all lights on shifter illuminate, dash reads "service shifter" has happened intermittently since March 2019 and as recently as November 2019. Taking car in to be checked on 11/20/2019.
Alternator is dead on 2017 Jeep Cherokee at roughly 50K miles. Was brand new when purchased in March 2017 & have had service shifter message pop up several times. Car has turned off while driving. And now alternator has died. Took to dealership every time vehicle had an issue. Dealership did a software update. Couldn't explain why car kept turning off while driving. Now at almost 3 years old & 50K miles the vehicle needs a new alternator.
The shifter service light comes on and all the lights on the gear shift light up red. I have to turn the car off and then on again to shift gears. It happens at random times on a regular basis. I'm listing the first time it happened, but it happens more and more.
I put my car in drive after backing up and all the lights on the shifter illuminated and I got the notice to "service shifter ". I turned the car off and restarted and the shifter was normal again.
I keep getting a service shifter warning while driving my Jeep. All the lights for the shifter light up (D, N, R and P). I have to pull over and restart the car off to dismiss the warnings.
When I started my car, a "service shifter" message appeared on my dashboard screen & every gear on the shifter turned red. I turned my car off & back on again. The message & red colors on the shifter appeared, again. I then turned my car off & back on again, & the message & colors did not appear.
Starting 2/23/19 warning lights for park brake, shifter, 4WD, park assist, tire pressure and check engine light came on. Went away after driving down road. Did it again 7/10/19, took to dealer. They patched a tire and said nothing else was wrong. Did it again 7/16/19. Took to dealer, they kept a few days, said they couldn't find an issue. Did it again 9/13/19. Did not take to dealer. Did it again 9/27/19 and this time car had trouble driving. Dealer will not do anything to fix this issue! this is ridiculous!
