At 2300 miles my Jeep Cherokee started rough shifting, not shifting, drop shifting into gear, accelerating and over riding the braking system in drive and reverse, shifter not properly going into gear, having to turn the Jeep off while it was accelerating from 30 to 40, 50 60, 70mph, and throwing the accelerating vehicle into park to try and get the braking system to respond.

I had the Jeep at the dealer and they let it sit for 6 weeks and drove it 6 miles and returned as "unable to duplicate." The Jeep continued to have the same issues.

I had another appointment to take the Jeep back to the dealer and it caused an accident. The Jeep kept accelerating until it hit another car, it would not stop accelerating and would not respond to the brake pedal being completely pushed into the floor, after it hit another car, the jeep continued to surge forward, even in park and with my foot on the brake pedal pressed to the floor.

STAR Case opened on Jeep, dealer found ground wires to transmission not properly installed, repaired. At 5,000 miles, the jeep continued to over ride the braking systems, accelerate to high rates of speed, shifter not responding, transmission not properly shifting, Jeep corporate involved and forced dealerships I take it to to state "unable to duplicate" after driving the jeep 4-6 miles and having the jeep for 8-10 hours at the dealer, and then they are forced to "kick it out" so jeep corporate doesn't have to Lemon Law it.

Now at 9100 miles there is hard start and loud timing chain rattle, I have 17 videos of it, but the dealer states they are unable to duplicate, and jeep corporate has told the dealer to tell me since it is under the 36/36 warranty, once the transmission and or engine completely goes bad, only then will they warranty and or replace. Until then I am driving a death trap and jeep seriously doesn't care and makes the dealership service technicians tell me to my face, "unable to duplicate today, pick it up immediately."

We bought a brand new 2017 Jeep Cherokee Limited and within a couple hundred miles noticed three issues with the transmission. The first issue is that while stopped at a red light or stop sign (with the automatic start/stop turned off) the car would hesitate when depressing the accelerator and then lurch forward suddenly.

The second issue is that after pulling the car into the garage and putting the car in park the car would lurch forward again when taking my foot off of the brake. The third issues is when on a downward slope (even a slight slope) and putting the car into reverse to back up the car will drift approximately three feet before the transmission engages.

I had it to the dealership three times and yesterday was informed that these issues are standard for that transmission (the transmission is the 9 speed 948TE). They did some software updates the first time which didn't help at all and are looking into possibly changing the valve body or something along those lines.

I bought my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 6 cyl in Oct 2017. I had no problems with it until Jeep did a recall to update the transmission software. I noticed immediately the cars performance started. I have to wait a few seconds for it to shift from Park to Drive or Reverse. While I'm driving it now hesitates shifting gears, often RPM going higher than it should. Before the upgrade I got 36MPG Highway/27MPG city. I know that because I took a 400+ mile trip. After the change my gas mileage dropped significantly to 27MPG/18MPG and runs like crap.

It was a safety issue because it would cause the vehicle to jerk snd then stop. When this happened upon entering a busy street someone could rear end me. Never happened but I was just lucky!

Update from Sep 25, 2017: I was on my way home from Edmonds about 9:15 a.m this morning (Saturday) and the Jeep did the same thing, only worse, on Olympic Drive (pretty crooked street). All of a sudden the car just plain stopped!!!! (no turns, stop signs/lights or any such thing). I had to do everything except exit the car and do a song an dance for the vehicles behind me who were, by then, honking their horns since I was dead center in the right hand lane.

Finally, putting the car in Park, shifting to N, reeving up the engine, shifting back do D, with nothing changing. Shifting back into N, reeving up the engine, then putting it into D and finally starting to move quite slowly for about 25 feet before it kicked in and had no further problem getting home.

This being Saturday, I left a message for the Service Rep of what had happened, explaining that I have to go to downtown Seattle tomorrow afternoon and if I have to take the Jeep I will be very nervous about it so would appreciate it if I could get a loaner today.

The service rep indicated on 9-25-17 that the only probability for resolution is a new transmission. The Jeep remains with the dealer service dept.

I bought a 2017 jeep cherokee (2.4 L - automatic - 9 speed) in November 2016. I've taken the car in already 3 times for the following problems. The dealer says that there is no fix !!!!!

Almost from the get-go the car had several transmission problems: 1. it does not respond when you need it: going up hill on the freeway I try to pass a car and I have to press on the gas almost all the way to the floor before the transmission "decides" to kick in and lower the gear so I can pass. The engine revs up to about 4500 (red-line is at 6000), so the engine is definitely going faster, but the transmission just does not respond. 2. There's a delay in the transmission when you select Drive or Reverse from being standing still. You put it in Drive and it takes 2 seconds or so before you can actually drive off !! Same in reverse. 3. The other day I got in, started the car, put it in Reverse and nothing happened. Lights started blinking. Some beeping started happening. But nothing, the car would not go into Reverse. So I put it in Drive just to see and still no response from the tranny. I had to turn the car off and on again before I could engage the tranny.

The car seems to be a LEMON. Although ... I've been reading on the web about my car and sure enough tons of people have had the exact same symptoms with their Jeep Cherokees with this transmission. Even the larger engine models (with a V6) have the same problems.

I'm starting the process to get my car declared a LEMON.

Finally at 2,407 miles I had taken in for a solution. Frustrating that after 3 visits to the dealership to have this issue resolved, First visit: Let me re flash the system ? (mask the problem). Second visit: We test drove your vehicle and we don't see anything abnormal (in other words we are just used to it or we aren't telling you we don't have a solution) Third visit:I was told this is how this vehicle shifts because it has 9 gears! I was instructed to drive the jeep differently? HUH? Shift manually, wait before taking off to allow it to figure out that I just changed gears!

After reading other complaints on this website I see that I'm not alone with the hesitation that I have experienced when shifting in to drive, reverse or driving on the highway, Putting in drive and the jeep rolls backwards till it catches gear almost causing you to roll into another vehicle. The transmission does not seem to do what it should. It down shifts when accelerating before finally deciding to shift to the proper gear. When backing out of a parking space it clunks into gear and jumps after a 2-4 second hesitation. The dealer told me that I have to put into gear and wait before I press the gas, wait until I hear it clunk into gear then proceed to take off! So now I'm the one hesitating, not the Jeep! LOL!! Reprogram how a normal person drives! Rethink how a normal vehicle shifts to allow for these abnormalities that this transmission has! How about they come up with a fix? or would that make too much sense?

I have read about previous years of the Cherokee that have had the same issue (lemon Law). 2014 & 2015. If they knew this transmission ZF-9 speed was not functioning properly then why bring it back in 2017. When the 2015 Renegade, 2014 & 2015 Cherokee, 2015 TLX Acura & 2015 Chrysler 200 have still not received a solution and are under lawsuit!
