CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.

It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.

Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

The emergency brake is different for the Jeep. The emergency brake is brake pads around the rear axle. You can never know when pads are bad. Cost about $250.00 to replace. If something happens to the cable the pads will lock up on the rear axle and lock the axle up and cause poor gas mileage and if unknown will cause severe damage to the tune of $1200.00.

This is the most stupid and dangerous design ever made. This design should be covered for the life of the car. If youare going down the road at 70 mph and the pads weld to your axle, it could kill you and others. Jeep should have done something about this.I understand that you have to pull the rear seats out and get to a plate in the rear floorboard to access the axle. So, so, stupid design and dangerous.

If you are getting very poor gas mileage like 14 mpg. this might be your problem. Don't wait until something really bad happens. I was lucky, it was in my drive way.
