This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving severe vibration occurs in the steering wheel due to premature wearing or warping of front brake rotors. Brake pedal vibrates when brakes are applied and the steering wheel vibrates started at 9000 miles. Rotors and front brake pads were replaced at 12,132 miles. At 16000 miles, the brake pedal started pulsating agian.
The rotors get warped after 3000 miles they fixed it 5 times and it is continuing again, I had the fuel pump replaced, the transmission slips forward after braking they clame that is normal, I had numerous electrical problems ( windows are not closing, radio, etc.
Dealer turned rotors at 13,000 and again at 27,000. On the rotors it states the minimum to be turned is 24.5 mine have been turned to $24.27 and $24.31. My understanding this does not allow the heat to disipate and they could crack.
Consumer took vehicle to a repair shop & had brake rotors replaced. They were making a grinding noise & slipping. Conusmer will contact the manufacturer.
While driving stepped on brakes and they made noise, like metal to metal grinding. Front brake rotors were corroded. Manufacturer sent a recall notice, but dealer did not take care of it.
Vehicle experienced problem with vibration whenever brakes were applied at 40 or more mph. Vehicle taken into dealer, and dealer informed consumer that both front rotors were warped. Feel free to provide further details.
Warped rotors at 13,400. Dealer replaced one and turned one. Steering wheel would shudder and brakes pulsate if braking speeds were greater than 50mph. Problem coming back 1000 miles later after "fix" applied by dealer.
Both front rotors warped at 19,000 miles and turned, now warped again at 25,000 and front pads still original and do not need replaced. This is the same problem they have done recalls on previous models and obviously have not fixed engineering problems. They want to excluce from warranty because it is brakes, but why do pads outlast rotors. Causes extreme shimmy of steering wheel and vibration when braking. Serious risk for accident.
Front brakes shake violently when applied at speed between 40 and 60 mph. Continue shaking until vehicle is below 40 mph or driver lets up on brakes. I've read through the complaints and see the same thing over and over. I first had the problem at 3,707 miles (1/29/99) and archer Jeep in houston resurfaced the front rotors. It happened again at 10,427 miles (6/17/99) and they again resurfaced front rotors. When it happened the third time 16,750 miles (11/11/99) they replaced the front rotors. Now, at 26,090 miles (5/17/00) the problem had returned again. This is obviously not a rotor problem and if it happens on a wet road, an accident will most certainly result. This is not a maintenance or dealer problem. The dealer has been most helpful. Jeep/Chrysler should be made to investigate and correct this dangerous problem. Warranty expires in 10,000 miles and I will still have brakes that were never right.
This truck is a lemon, I will never buy american again. The Jeep is unsafe rotors warp and cause severe control problems while braking. I will be starting a new web page to get the word out about this unsafe vehicle and return to the faithful Nissan family and purchase a pathfinder
At approx. 4800 miles noticed wheel vibration when braking at highway speeds. Took in to dealer and they said they found nothing. Vibration proceeded to get severe and took vehicle in again at 7400 miles. They resurfaced rotors which fixed the problem. Now at 10600 miles again getting vibration which is continuing to get worse as vehicle is driven. When vehicle was taken in at 7400 miles I feel if left to continue the vibration was soon to get severe enough to loose control of vehicle.
