Consumer put the vehicle in park, set the emergency brake and kept the engine running while getting the mail. Consumer returned with foot on the brake pedal, released the parking brake, put the vehicle in reverse gear. Wihtout touching the accelerator, the vehicle moved backwards two car lengths. Suddenly with out consumers assistance, the vehicle revved and accelerated with full power. Consumer had his foot pressed hard on the brake pedal, but the vehicle kept moving. This problem is intermittent.

Vehicle went into full throttle reverse as it was shifted out of "park". vehicle is equipped with a brake interlock that prevents shifting out of park without brake being applied. Vehicle left rubber marks from all four wheels for several feet before I was able to being it under control. Application of both feet to brake pedal didn't stop the acceleration and problem vanished as quickly as it appeared. All indications nominal after the event, but am now very concerned of personal liability in the event of an injury. This is a very dangerous situation and I can say with absolute certainty that the accelerator was not touched. One other detail I might mention is that as I was engaging the brake pedal to shift into reverse, something registered that the pedal "felt funny". I've attempted to recreate the problem... using the brake with the engine off to remove any vacuum assist, then starting... normal shifts from park to reverse... nothing. My profession and training allows me to be somewhat objective in this matter. I have to assume that somehow the pedal "feeling" for the brakes and the instant throttle increase are related. Since there is no mechanical connection, it would lead me down the path of an electronics malfunction. I will inform Chrysler and the dealer as soon as business hours start on Monday, but I write this in case I am the "victim" of a similar event before the vehicle is repaired.

I was braking at a stoplight. And had almost come to a complete stop, when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and shot forward. My foot was on the brake the entire time but it made no difference. What stopped me was the car in front of me. I rear-ended it with enough impact to push that car into the car ahead of it.

I picked up my vehicle during lunch and noticed the noise en route to airport (travel for work). 72 hours had lapsed before my return date. The car kept making a "revving" noise and ticked/clicked if I did not push the gas pedal down to accelerate quickly. It still makes that noise and the transmission (I was told by a non Jeep mechanic) sounds like it is winding up fast even though the car is moving slow (like a 10 speed bicycle does when you have the gears adjusted incorrectly). I called the dealership when I returned and I was told that I needed to break in the vehicle because it had less than 100 miles. I also reported the noise on two occasions to a dealership in new britain, ct when getting mfg suggested service (documented on their svc forms). The 4 wheel drive gear also was stuck but loosened up after several uses.

My husband was backing the Jeep out of the driveway. Once the Jeep was put in drive it accelerated without touching the gas pedal. It took my husband to put both feet on the brake to stop and place the Jeep in park. When the engine stopped reving he was able to put the Jeep in drive and proceed down the driveway. He drove about 15 feet and the Jeep stalled. Now I drive this Jeep on average about 800 miles per week. I did take the Jeep over to Chrysler to have them look at it. I told them what happened and left my Jeep there. I received a call about 5 hours later stating that the Jeep was ready to be picked up and was also told that they found nothing wrong with the Jeep. They were not able to give me any type of explanantion of why this happened. I do not want this to happen while I am driving, I don't think I would be able to stop the Jeep like my husband did. I am afraid that I will run off the road or smash into something. I did read about another person on your site who had a similiar problem. This is serious and people can be killed due to this problem. I hope their is something that can be done. Thank you.

On 2 occasions and while making a normal stop with foot on brakes, RPM's will go up high, feels like it goes to the maximum, lasting about 5 seconds and then it will go back to normal. While experiencing the defect, consumer must stand on brakes, and hold on to steering wheel to keep control. Dealer claims cannot duplicate defect. Dealer has scanned system for codes, but no codes showed up, performed test iac per starr which tested okay. Also, took vehicle to road test for 562 miles which ran according to specifications.
