Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • 25,000 miles

2002 Grand Cherokee unlimited (wj) blend door broken. Creaking/groaning sounds coming from under dash. When heater is on, passenger side gets only cold air. First discovered in Sept of 2005 while vehicle was below 36000. Vehicle still within factory warranty (100,000). Was told by dealer that the blender door was broken and not covered under warranty. Cost to repair approx. $850. Unsatisfactory since this seems to be a common problem with wj owners. We've been living with this problem for two years due to the cost of the repair.

The A/C in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee is not working properly. It doesn't cool down, one side blows cool, the other hot, there is a fan noise and there is cold "condensation" smoke (?) that blows out at times. I have been told that the blend door motor needs to be replaced. I was quoted a parts price of $94 and approximately 5.2 hours worth of labor.

The HVAC system in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee became inoperative due to poor quality blend doors. This led to no airflow from the system and unsafe operation of the vehicle due to no defrost/defog capability and subsequent loss of visibility out of the vehicle.

The blend doors on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with automatic climate control have failed. First the passenger side blend door failed and would only blow cold air, while the drivers could blow warm air. Now the drivers side blend door has failed as well and will only blow cold air. It costs over $1000 at the Jeep dealership to repair a blend door since it requires complete removal of the dash assembly. The Jeep dealership service technician said blend door failure is a very common occurrence with the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is a major problem since this the front windshield defogger becomes ineffective when the blend door is broken.

Heater no longer working.. dealer found to be "faulty blend door" and "recir door". the issue causes windows to fog making it difficult to see while driving. I was quoted $1200-1600 to have repaired at dealer.. it's too expensive as I'm on a very limited budget... but very concerned about the safety of this vehicle

Without any warning and before I knew of its commonality I noticed my defroster not able to keep up and then I had no heat from any vents..blend door failure in 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, no heat at all out of any vents, terrible defroster function, very difficult to gain visibility in any inclement weather... I repaired it myself to a cost of $300 or so and around ten hours labor, all with oem Chrysler parts, then one year later another failure of the same parts....

My Jeep Grand Cherokee has a bad ventilation system. This is a manufacturing defect which affects all Jeep Grand Cherokee's manufactured with auto climate controls from 1999-2004. I have had to bring mine in for repair twice now, and it has once again failed. The levers in the ventilation ducts have plastic components which, over time, break down and crack causing cold-only or hot-only air to blow from the vents. This issue causes major fogging of the windshield at times depending upon how the levers get stuck, which is a serious and major safety concern- I have to pull over and wipe the windshield down so I can see. I lead a group comprised of over 1000 people who have formed expressly as a result of this matter; all of our vehicles are ailing, and rest assured, there are thousands more out there with this problem who probably aren't even aware our group united against daimler Chrysler even exists. It would be in DC's best interest to issue a recall or settlement agreement before this turns into another class-action suit like they experienced with the 99-03 Jeep Grand Cherokee brake rotor/caliper matter earlier in the year.

Duel climate control doors not working no heat on passenger side or on driver side. Windows fog up and make for dangerous driving conditions. Cost $1500 to repair and fix. At the dealership they have seen between 8-10 of these since October 2005 and it is only February 2006. When I called Jeep about the problem the customer service person told me he was "setting me straight" and that he didn't care if I was a customer again. He would not let me talk to a supervisor and he hung up the phone on me.
