Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

There is a potentially serious safety issue concerning the interior door handles of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Apparently the plastic holding these door handles has a tendency to crack and break, causing the door handles to be inoperable from the inside of the vehicle. The door handle is only supported by the molded plastic of the entire plastic door panel, and not the metal frame of the door itself. There has been no blow or abnormal use to cause this problem, just the normal opening of the doors with the inside door handle. This condition has affected all 4 of our doors, with the handle itself completely missing (falling down inside the door) on the left rear passenger door. At this point, the handle on the right rear passenger door is not missing, but it is inoperable (nothing for the handle to pull against because it is cracked on the inside), and both front doors have cracks but are operational at this point. It is obvious that Chrysler-Jeep needs to resolve the problem before someone dies in a fire or accident, having gotten trapped inside the vehicle. We bought this vehicle new from the dealer, but the dealer has indicated there is no recall and it will cost ~$600 each to replace the entire door panels to fix the current problem. He also indicated that even with the new door panels, the problem may happen again. This is not acceptable!!! must someone die to bring this serious problem to light.

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my door handles are breaking off on the inside. I do not have children so they are not abused in any way. The material is a cheap plastic and the handles are barely hanging on both front driver and passenger doors. This is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed. I have also seen several other complaints on youtube from other Jeep owners with same situation. I also work for aaa roadside and have seen several instances where they have to be towed for electrical fires. This makes me very nervous and this matter needs to be addressed. There are also videos on youtube with Jeep fires as well to back it up. Any kind of recall would be greatly appreciated as these two scenarios are a serious and life threatning combination. Thanks

Door panel just behind front door latches cracks and obstructs latch movement, thereby impeding door operation. Even after plastic fully cracks, latch sometimes "catches" on pieces. Could be hazardous if immediate exit of vehicle was necessary.

Unsure of the specific incident date. The failure is the plastic molding around the inside door handle for 3 out of 4 doors. The plastic has broken, exposing the inside mechanics and allowing for the handled to extend further than necessary. This makes exit questionable as the door handle is only holding on to the latch without any place for leverage. In the event of an accident/emergency, if the door was to be involved it is possible the handle would suffer further damage and be unable to operate. There has been nothing done about replacing the part. It costs roughly $700 per door to repair.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - interior door handles broken all of the interior door handles on my vehicle have broken. Apparently the only available fix is to replace the entire door panel assembly. I have solicited quotations for each panel, and the lowest offered price has been $750/panel. Based upon the fact that 4 of 4 handles have broken in the same manner, I believe it sound to conclude the handle suffers from a hidden vice or defect. Luckily, I live in a state that allows recovery for breach of the warranty against redhibition. However, I can only imagine the disappointment and anger for like consumers who have no recourse to address this defect. Please do the right thing and persuade the manufacture to remedy via recall.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door handle trim completely shatters for no apparent reason. Door handles are inoperative from inside the vehicle. Every door handle has this same issue. Chrysler-Jeep officially denies any culpability, but will give a discount off of the $2,500 repair bill, so consumers must pay $1,000 for the manufacturing defect. Even extended warranties will not cover the issue. I hope to god no one ever desperately needs to get out of one of these death traps in an emergency.

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has broken door handles. The dealer wants $750 in order to fix the part. It is a safety concern for my children in the back seat who will not be able to get out of the car if there was an accident. This just occurred in the last month. I will fix the piece on my own dime but it seems kind of outrageous for a door handle. If not for my kids I would skip it and just suffer with the broken door handle.

I currently own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and approximately September of last year I observed the front passenger interior door housing to be cracked and loose. I was bewildered how this happened. In April of this year my seven year old daughter was in the rear seat behind the driver seat. I stopped the vehicle and exited. I was waiting for my daughter to come out and she began to bang on the glass in a panic. I opened the door from the outside and she was crying and told me she couldn't get out that the interior handle was broken. I looked at the handle and discovered the housing to be completely broken apart like the front passenger one, but the rear handle was just dangling and is inoperable. It was at this time I began to research this issue to see if it is a problem with other Jeep owners. Sure enough it is a problem with hundreds of Jeep owners, and my research should that there are 65 complaints filed under latches/locks/linkages; 29 complaints under structure: Body: Door; and 10 complaints under latches /locks/linkages:door:latch, not counting other site complaints when you conduct a google search. I went to a local Jeep dealer who informed me that my warranty is up and they do not have any knowledge of any recalls. I am concerned as if two handles are broke, it is a matter of time the other two will also break. I also find this to be a serious!!!, safety issue as if there is an emergency, how will a child exit my rear seat if they are sitting behind the driver and if the handle breaks on the otherside there is no getting out from within the vehicle. This of course can result in the death of a passenger. I hope your Agency can assist me with this problem in getting these handles replaced before the unthinkable happens. Thank you in advance.

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was unable to exit the vehicle from the front driver side because the door handle was fractured. In order for the contact to exit the vehicle, the contact had to roll down the front driver side window and open the door by using the exterior door handle. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee - all 4 plastic door handles have broken off - plastic falling apart and into inside of door - the only way to get out is to open from the outside. Very dangerous if you are unable to get out of vehicle - I have tried to gorilla glue them back together and they just keep crumbling.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 3 of 4 door handles broken off. Huge safety issue if vehicle involved in a crash or into water. No way to safely get all passengers out. 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door handles inoperable from the inside of the vehicle. The 2 back door handles have fallen off. We took this up with Chrysler and was told this is not under warranty. This is a quality/design flaw and a huge safety issue. Chrysler needs to recognize this and re-call and fix this issue. We then took our Jeep into a dealer to get it fixed and paid $736 for one door panel. The only panel that could be fixed since the rest are on back order "?" we are left with 2 doors that don't operate and one cracked door handle that eventually will fall off too. Please help address this concern with the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Thank you
