I have been dealing with this for years in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The door handles on the inside are all broken. One in the back is completely broke off and the 2 in the front are hanging by a wire. This is a very dangerous issue and I get nowhere when trying to talk to Jeep or even Jeep dealers. Recently I saw online many more people with this problem and someone even said Jeep agreed to a $50 copay in 2010. I brought my Jeep into the dealer when it was still covered under my extended warranty bought from Jeep when I bought it in 2006, and they told me it is cosmetic and not covered. When calling Jeep I was told nobody has died so no recall and I am responsible for replacing these door handles. You can not replace the handles only, you have to replace the whole panel and total cost is around $3000. With the amount of people having this issue it is unbelievable that it is not being addressed on a large scale. If one of us gets killed from being trapped inside of their Jeep because the door handles are all broken they will have a huge price to pay. I am down to one handle, and extremely unhappy! please help!!!

I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited V8 5.7L and 3 of the 4 door handles are cracked. A couple of them have been cracked for a while, but recently another one literally just cracked open by just opening the rear door with little force. There have been numerous claims on this issue at this site www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2010/11/Jeep-grand-Cherokee-interior-door-handle-broken-recall/. clearly I am not the first person who has had this issue. My Jeep is in great condition, so this isn't an abuse issue. I am concerned that the condition the rear doors are in will soon make them non-functional. The repair for this issue is a ridiculous amount.

Three of the door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee have broken off and are unusable. The other two are cracking and I am fearful that they will be breaking off soon. The handles and the supporting door frames are all cracking in the same location and the handles then fall off. The manufacturer has been unwilling to even discuss the issue. The dealer states it is $700 -$900 per door to fix. Parts to fix the door handles are unavailable for sale outside the dealerships. Due to the safety issue of being unable to exit the back seat area from the inside, I am unable to allow anyone to ride in the back seats at this time. If an accident were to occur, they would be unable to exit the car from the inside. There are numerous complaints posted as well as a website where hundreds of people are stating the same exact issue with their 2005 Jeep. There was not any outside circumstances that caused this defect. The dealer states it is normal wear and tear. This is an unacceptable safety hazard. I hope you will address as a recall before someone is seriously injured because they cannot get out of the vehicle. Here is a link to a website with tons of complains on this issue www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2010/11/Jeep-grand-Cherokee-interior-door-handle-broken-recall/#comment-11230

3 of the 4 interior door handles have broken off out of the handle housing. The 2 back doors are unable to open from the inside creating a serious safety risk. The drivers door is hanging on by a thread. Still operable but handle housing is completely broken. Even normal wear and tear should not cause this type of breakage on so many vehicles. Chrysler should step up and rectify this issue before deaths occur and lawsuits begin.

On approximately December 8, 2010 the plastic around the inside left rear door handle cracked while my daughter was opening the door from the inside. After that the handle was loose and I frequently had to open the door from the outside to let her out of the Jeep. Around July of 2011 my father tried to open the door from the inside and more of the plastic surrounding the handle broke off and the handle fell down inside the door panel. Now the door cannot be opened at all from the inside. This is a major safety issue. The door handle was never handled in a rough manner and should never have failed like this.

Interior door latch on rear drivers side door completely broke off and drivers side front door latch beginning to crack around plastic and incur same problem. This is a huge safety issue in case of accident or fire one would be trapped inside vehicle unable to exit presumably dying from injuries. This is an obvious on going problem with the Jeep Cherokee and I feel Chrysler needs to own responsibility for this and incur the expense of all repairs.

Inside door handle plastic is broken in one door and cracked in two others. Once this plastic breaks the inside door handles fall out rendering the door inoperable from the inside. In an accident there is no way to get out through the door unless you break a window and reach the outside handle. From the research I have done online it appears that this is a common issue with these vehicles. Jeep does not sell this assembly separately. It is only available by purchasing an entire door panel at a cost of five hundred per rear door handle and six hundred plus per front and this does not include installation.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I really have a concern to whom or where I could file a claim with a problem with my interior door handles. The reason why I'm complaining is that all the 4 interior door handles cannot by opened from the inside as usual because all of them are broken and with the plastic cracked, made in pieces and holes where the plastic has been missing. Most of the time I have or the passengers have to open the door from outside. Please help me in this or give me some advice. What I have to do or where I could find information to replace them. Thanks

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited - car is in good condition except for 3 of the 4 doors have handles casings that are cracked and the door handle is hanging off. The car is well maintained and garage kept. This started happening in the last year and has spread rapidly. All 3 doors have done it the same place and it has started with a crack and then grown into the pieces falling off and leaving the inner workings of the door fully exposed. This a grave safety issue and a recall needs to be issued.

I have an 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and all 4 interior door handles started with hairline cracks that have advanced into major cracks and pieces of the plastic missing where the interior door handle is located. Recently, 2 days ago- the back passenger handle completely came off and now is inoperable. There is no way to exit the vehicle from the inside of that affected door. I am certain that all my door handles will eventually follow suit and I will have no operable doors in the vehicle. This is a safety issue and should be addressed as such. This is not cosmetic. All 4 interior door handle panels need to be replaced. The door handles are not secure and will continue to crumble until they are not usable anymore. Since this is a known issue- when is Jeep going to start replacing their broken manufactured parts?

My vehicle has 40,000 miles, immaculate condition except for the door handles and their structures around them. The drivers door is barley excitable. Sometimes I have to roll the window down to get out.(how embarrassing, to be a top of the line, showroom quality; still ; vehicle). We bought it new in November 2004. Have been so happy with it until 2 months ago. The passenger and rear passenger handles are cracked as well. Please help me, I'm just sick about it.

Good afternoon. Within the past 24 months, all 4 of my door handles (interior) have had hair line cracks that have developed into full breaks on the door handles causing safety concerns for myself and my children should we be in an emergency and be unable to get out of the car. I had purchased an extended warranty on my Jeep (7 years or 70,000.00) miles and when I had taken it in to our authorized dealer, they informed me that it was not covered. I have received a quote to fix this and was informed that they need to replace the entire door panel as the handle itself is not a part in itself, which will cost over $2000 for parts and labor. My vehicle is in excellent shape except for this.

I have a Grand Cherokee 2005, I purchase used less then 5 months ago. The passenger door open handle frame started to brake up to a point that broke the frame. Went to the dealer where I purchase the told me that I need to replace the entire door panel which cost me over 600 dollars. The vehicle has less then 60 thousand miles... but since pass the 6 years it is not cover under the warranty. I am afraid to buy another door panel pay 600 dollars and break again. I would like to Jeep to step up and help customers that like Jeep cars and have problems like this... after looking online I notice that I am not the only one. Please help!
