The dash lights started flickering, then the brakes locked up and the Jeep just lost power and turned off. This was the first time that the Jeep's brakes locked up and lost power and this is enough to cause alarm and resulted with this complaint. I will not wait for a second time that the vehicle's brakes lock up and turns itself off at a more dangerous highway situation on a busy traffic and certainly not putting my family at this type of risk which is obviously a manufacturer's defect. [xxx], a customer service representative from Jeep that I have spoken to advised that Chrysler could possibly issue a recall if enough number of complaints were received from NHTSA. Am I really supposed to wait until my family gets injured before something gets done with this known issue? the dash lights/gauges issue has been ongoing and Jeep had been contacted a few years back to no avail. I also advised [xxx] (Jeep rep) about all four handles breaking at the same time. I had to open the door from the outside to let my daughter and her friend get out of the backseat. These handles should not break at all due to it's normal use and purpose. I request your department to please investigate this obvious safety issue, and avoid any injuries that this defect could cause. Thank you. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2006). Over the past 5 years, it has intermittently had problems. Sometimes while driving and after startup. These problems have always been loss of gauges, flashing lights in dash, what appears to be the traction control or brakes kicking in and the loss of power steering? when this first started happening I thought maybe the computer had been vibrated or jostled and had a glitch. Over time it would go away and 6 months or so later happen again! I have done everything in my power to stop this from happening, ie changing parts and trouble shooting the problems to no avail. I thought I had this narrowed down to a rusted connection from a ground wire connected to the block.....wrong again! this morning I had my 4 year old son in the Jeep and was taking a left at a busy intersection. I clearly had enough time to make the turn, but as I was turning it sounded like my anti lock brakes were kicking in mid turn with a car coming right at us! I made the turn pulled over on the side of the road. All my gauges were dead, check engine light on and only the gear selector was visible. I have read on many Jeep related forums, that this is not only happening to my Jeep but many others! while reading I have noticed one thing. In many cases these problems were solved by replacing the ignition switch! after reading this I further researched the problem against recalls. I found that, according to the wall street journal, NY times, usa today and forbes, Chrysler is allegedly recalling these vehicles with faulty ignition switches. So I called my local dealer. They looked my Jeep up in their database and told me they're were no recalls on my vehicle and that they haven't recalled any vehicles for faulty ignition switches. I would appreciate it if the NHTSA could help with some of these problems and answer some of these question I and many others have.

If the keys in the ignition shake just slightly, all lights on dash flicker on/off, engine cuts out and comes back on. I've had a problem with this since I bought the vehicle in 12/08 and still happens. I can only have 1 car key in ignition so nothing happens but still does every so often.

Driving on the highway and the entire dash board lit up, blank a few times, and then went dark. Nothing on the dash board was working (no mph, gas gauge, etc.). after a few minutes of blinking and going dark, everything begins to work again, but the check engine light comes on. This exact scenario has happened multiple times. Usually the light will stay on from anywhere between 1-5 days and then go away. I have been dealing with this issue for over a year. In once instance, I was driving around the city going 10-15 mph and this scenario happened and the brakes were not working properly and the car was very hard to turn. Everytime I have brought the car to the dealer they try to pull a code and nothing is available for them. At this point I am fed up so I am officially reporting the issue. It is completely unsafe to be driving when this happens, especially when you are on the highway. Let's hope something is officially done before anyone gets hurt.

My pregnant wife has had this issue before with the car and we took it to the dealership without anyone being able to fix it. While driving between 15-60 mph the car completely shuts down. No power steering, brakes, or electrical. You have to throw it in neutral and start it back up. This has to be an electrical issue as other quirky things have been happening as well such as the headlights will flicker on and off and the volume and stations selectors on the steerwheel often do not work properly. This is an issue that Jeep needs to identify and fix. Very scary to be going 50-60 mph and lose control of your car going down the highway. Over the past two days this has happened three times. I have done research online as well and there are plenty of other Jeep owners that have this same issue. Jeep needs to have a recall for this issue. I am shocked that this has not happened yet.

My 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee lardeo has all the same issues as listed by every other Jeep owner. The engine randomly shuts off while driving down the road, the dash board and headlights flicker on and off constantly. Sometimes we start sometimes we dont. When pulling out into traffic, maybe it will go, maybe it wont. I have lost my brakes on several occasions as well. Now the Jeep sits in my driveway as it wont start at all, and of coarse nobody can tell me what is wrong with it as usual ! nothing like paying for a dead horse ! I have contacted the Chrysler corporation only to be told these are not "safety" issues. Good lord what does it take to get a decent vehicle that is safe and reliable ? I guess that would be not buying anything Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep in the future is the route I will take ! I only hope when one of these ticking bombs fail, my family and friends arent on the road that day !

Like others vehicle has stalled while at low speeds. At random times, took to my mechanic and he never could duplicate the problem. Until, I took it there for an electrical problem and to check out the steering. While he was test driving the car, it stalled on him and still could never find the problem, my lights flicker on the inside, dash over head light all inside lights, at night when I have my lights on, till I turn them very low and still flickers but can't notice it as much, inside lights don't turn on at all when I try to switch them on as well. The air bag light has stayed and been on for a while, my mechanic ran a test on that as air bag is fine but light stays on. I know there where recalls so I called Chrysler and they said my car does not qualify under any of the recalls. Now my ABS and esp/bas, traction control light are on. At first they came on while I was driving when went to slow down my breaks rattled, the lights came on then went off. Now they have been on and won't turn off. And my cruise control stopped working as well same time. There seems to be nothing that comes up while running test and stuff. My car has 115756 miles on it and these problems keep happening. Also when I start it the car ideals rough and when I'm stopped at a light tried and replaced parts and still does it. I love my Jeep and would like to have these problems found out and fix I'm almost done paying it off and want to keep it but it scares me that it's could stall any moment randomly.

While driving in normal dry conditions this past evening unexpectedly all my interior gauges and dash electronics started flickering on and off to include the radio, hazard lights and everything inside. At the same time I realized I was also loosing my exterior headlights and also brake control because my car was essentially running but with no electronics. It started making a weird grinding pulsating noise that would accompany the flickering lights. This forced me to exit the road at a gas station. It then stopped and I began driving again only to have it resume shortly. Thankfully I was close to my destination and was able to shut the vehicle off for the night. This has happened occasionally in the past couple months during the day but this is my first night experience. I thought it was just a glitch but it is definitely getting worse and has become regular. The next morning I was able start and drive my vehicle to work and it repeated this behavior a couple more times. At days end I went to leave and now my Jeep won't start and hasn't for two days. All the electronics come on but when I turn the key it just clicks. I also had this problem in the past but when my mechanic looked at it he was unable to duplicate the problem.

For a few months now & without warning: The dashboard lights, tachometers, heater, and headlights flicker on/off, then go completely off. Then if applying the brakes, there is a ferocious grinding noise and loss of steering. Engine seems to slow down or not want to shift to next gear while driving. All this happens when there is flickering. Seems to happen at random but getting worse. Check engine light stays on for a day then disappears. I have video recording of these incidents. Vehicle has been checked but "nothing reports" so I am told it cannot be repaired.

While driving under completely normal conditions, several severe problems occurred simultaneously; interior dash lights started flashing on and off, vehicle started sputtering and became unresponsive when trying to accelerate, grinding sound from left front wheel accompanied the other problems further adding to the vehicle suddenly slowing down while in motion. All warning lights were lit up when flashing stopped, but then a couple of minutes later while I was trying to limp into a parking lot to get the car off the road the dash lights started wildly flashing on and off again and the car continued to be virtually unresponsive when stepping on the gas. After shutting the car off and restarting it, the esp/bas lights remained on for a couple of days, but eventually went out, but the check engine light remained on. The problem happened again on 3/29/2013 while I was driving under normal conditions. It was sudden, unexpected and scary. With the right set of circumstances, it could be devastating and extremely dangerous. Once I started doing a bit of online research, I found many Jeep forums packed full of owners with the identical model and year of my Grand Cherokee that are having the same grave issues. It is clearly very widespread for this particular vehicle, and then I found the arfc page and I was astounded at the numbers of owners of my year and model who have also had hair raising incidents who have described the exact set of problems that I have had. Chrysler cannot ignore the massive numbers of people who are reporting the same defect issues. It is well beyond the realms of coincidence, and it is too dangerous to ignore. There needs to be a national factory recall asap before somebody gets killed.
