Had N23 recall done in September 2013 in November 2013 when I was going to tow Cherokee behind motorhome would not go into neutral in transfer case. Dealership replace actuator. January 2014 same problem, dealership replaced actuator again, they said the one previously replaced was bad. February 2014 same problem, dealership reflashed tcm. May 2014, same problem, reflashed tcm again. Later May 2014, same problem, dealership opened ticket with star engineers, checked every wire harness, connection in transfer case and actuator. Now June, same problem...my question Chrysler customer care only helps communicating with the dealership and the dealership can not email the star engineers. Why haven't they looked at the final drive control module, that is where the problem started with the recall"?? since the new models are ok what changed from the 2008 to the 2011 and newer??" need help!! Chrysler needs to fix the problem. Many people have this problem since the Cherokee is such a popular vehicle to tow.
Owner of 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a regular basis hear a click and the power shuts off. You find yourself with no power steering, no power brakes, and no lights. This also occurs sometimes when you go over a bump or if your knee touches the key ring. The ignition key and mechanisms was replaced in 2010, and this above problem has been occurring off and on since then. In the past two years the occurrence has increased. The technicians can find nothing wrong in the car. Chrysler will not admit that the ignition fob and housing is defective, or that their is any problem. This problem is potentially life threatening if it occurs when there is no place to pull over and if hit, air bags will not deploy when the engine is off.
I started the vehicle and then pulled out onto the highway. As my speed increase, the fob key clicked to the off position. Before I knew what happened I had no power and had to pull to the side. Luckily I was in the right hand lane. This has happened maybe 5-6 times so I brought it to the dealer. They could not find a problem not could they duplicate the problem. Ironically I just needed to install a new starter motor but the problem still exists and it is happening more often. Sometimes I start the car, do not even get a chance to put it into park because the fob key turns to the left into the off position. I am afraid this will eventually cause an accident.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph making a turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred three years later. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. On June 10 2013 we purchased a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 6 days after the 30 day warranty expired, was the beginning of a series of incidents that have continued until now 6/3/2014. About a week after purchasing vehicle the motor died in traffic. My wife drove to the dealer and told them what happened. They drove the vehicle but nothing happened and told her it was probably nothing and not to worry. But over time the problem has worsened to the point that it is not safe to drive. The ignition is on, everything is working, then the ignition kicks off, motor dies, and steering is lost and we have to roll to the curb and restart the engine. Drive a few blocks or maybe a mile or two then the ignition kicks off again. This has happened once on a freeway here in California, luckily close to an exit where we were able to roll off. Now the dealer wants to charge a very large sum to analyze and repair the problem and we feel they knew about this at the time of sale. I see on the net others have the same problem we have with their Jeep cutting off. The dealer informed the consumer the ignition module needed to be replaced. Updated 09/03/14

Approximately 10 times, while driving my vehicle at various speeds (10, 30 and 70 mph) my vehicle has stalled. One time, while driving 70 miles, with my children in the car, my vehicle stalled while in the outside lane. I had to get across five lanes of traffic, with no power, including no power steering and I barely made it over. My vehicle has also stalled while pulling out of my development, which is on a road that is posted 45 mph and on a bend. So when I have stalled in the middle of the intersection, I have cars who round the bend at 45 mph and I, and my children, our sitting ducks unable to move. It is only a matter of time before someone gets killed. I brought it the dealership, they kept it for several days and several hundred dollars for them to tell me they do not know what is wrong. Two things to note: It always stalls after hitting a bump, and I carry approximately 30 keys and rings on the chain that holds my ignition key. I do not think that this is a coincidence and I take this very seriously. My children, other innocent people, or myself are going to be seriously hurt or killed and I want this investigated aggressively.
While traveling at 55 miles per hour on southern blvd. In West palm beach the key turned from the on to the off position. This caused a lockup of the steering and brakes. The automobile returned to full function when the key was turned back to the vertical position. There were no keys or weight hanging from the key and it just clicked off. This condition was recently repaired at arrigo Dodge on okeechobee blvd. The key now sticks in the ignition. The radio failed soon after and it was noted that fuse 27 & 28 were covered in lithium grease from the prior repair which stopped the fuse from making contact with the plug. Cleaning restored the radio function, but key is still stuck in the ignition. Later, the computer stated "key damaged". updated 04/13/15.

The vehicle stalled without warning on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure on three occasions. The contact had to shift into neutral gear, wait a few minutes and attempt to restart the vehicle numerous times. There were times when the vehicle failed to restart. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 61,300.
2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle lost all power while driving. The consumer stated on several occasions the vehicle lost all power while driving on the highway. The engine shut down for no apparent reason. The consumer lost the ability to steer and brake the vehicle. The vehicle lost power on several different occasions.

The contact stated that once he had the vehicle repaired, he was unable to use the 4-wheel drive function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions but was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.
Lost 4X4 drive low range. Problem is directly related to the "safety recall N23 / NHTSA 13V-175 reprogram final drive controller module" that a Jeep service center had preformed. I am from North Canada where we have snow from early November to may end it's not safe to travel without functional 4 wheel drive.do we have to wait till someone freezes to death or dies from dehyadration in desert until Chrysler do something.
I have previously entered a similar complaint for this same vehicle. The issue is that the vehicle stalls/shuts off for no reason while driving. Chrysler is unable to provide a reliable fix. This began in May 2012 - my vehicle simply shut off while driving in any number of conditions whether it be on the highway, side roads, etc. I removed all excess keys from my key ring to ensure that it was not the key being too heavy. Brought this in to my dealership, they replaced the win control module but couldn't guarantee that this would fix the problem. Vehicle stalled once while driving unexpectedly about 9 months later. Then vehicle stopped twice in October 2013. At that time I brought the vehicle to another dealership. They at first wanted to replace the win module. When I told them that was the fix from before and it didn't work, they advised that the front control module be replaced, as there was a recall on this but my vehicle was one day past the date of manufacturing impact in the recall, but was having the same exact issue. Replaced front control module in October 2013. Vehicle stopped unexpectedly while driving again twice in March 2014 - on March 20th and March 21st. Vehicle is back at the dealer where they again want to replace the win module. Again, this fix was provided previously and did not fix the car. Either the wins being produced by chyrsler are all faulty and I somehow have gotten 2 in a row or there is an underlying issue that cannot be found or addressed. This issue is very prevalent with 2008 Grand Cherokee. Chrysler is sitting on a very dangerous issue.
Vehicle engine suddenly stopped on hwy at 70 mph (this is the 3rd time it has happened in the last 9 months). I was able to get the vehicle off the hwy. It started up after coming to a stop. I took the vehicle into the dealership and they informed me that they were aware of this problem (had worked on previous Grand Cherokee and even had the Chrysler engineers out to try and help them). They did inspections on my vehicle for 5 days and said they could not duplicate the problem or find anything out from the vehicle computer. They told me to contact Chrysler. I was eventually given to a case manager. They initially said they could not do anything and now they keep delaying getting back to me. This has been 2 weeks with no solution in sight. This is a major safety problem and the vehicle should not be driven without some fixes. I also have a 7 yr/100,000 mile platinum wraparound warranty that should cover whatever is wrong.
The first incident was the key getting stuck in the ignition and the dealer replaced an ignition component. After that was replaced on three occasions the engine turned off for now apparent reason. Jeep could not determine why and at that point I purchased a new car. I am reporting this now after hearing about the recall for other vehicles which turned off for no reason and had caused injury or death. Fortunately I was never in heavy traffic and was able to restart the vehicle. I was advised by Jeep to remove any extra keys from the ring but that did not resolve the engine turning off. Perhaps there are other Jeep owners who have experienced this problem but it was not part of the potential recall.
Went into dealership service center to have "N23" safety recall performed. Before N23 software update there was no problem using the 4WD-low function, afterwards the 4WD-low shift function comes up with "service 4WD" code and will not shift into 4WD-low. I discovered this while stuck in a snow drift this weekend. After researching the issue I discovered that many Jeep owners that went in for the N23 recall are having the same issue.
We are full time rvers and have towed our Jeep about 40,000 miles without any issues, until the recent recall. NHTSA #13V75000, Chrysler N23. The very innocuous recall notice spoke of the dot requiring the recall based on a number of cases where the transfer case shifted into neutral on it's own and the vehicle rolled away, causing damage. The recall went on to say that the fix was to take it to the dealer for a software reprogramming to take care of the issue. The recall notice was very carefully and cleverly written to leave one with the impression that a software issue was the cause of the problem, and Jeep was going to fix it with the reflash of the transmission computer. This is not true. The issue is caused by the failure of hardware in the transfer case, and the "fix" offered by Jeep is nothing more than a band aid to meet the strict letter of the demand by the NHTSA. As thousands of Jeep owners are now learning, after the recall they find themselves in a situation where the transfer case will no longer shift into neutral, or 4WD low, at all. I have personal knowledge of dozens of Jeep owners with these issues who never had a problem before the recall. This problem creates a great uncertainty among owners. We don't know if the 4WD system will work when needed, or end up stuck in neutral or 4WD low, making the vehicle unusable. While not being able to tow may not be a safety issue, I think that disabling a 4WD system that many people rely on in bad terrain or weather would be. I don't think that NHTSA has monitored this situation properly and has allowed Chrysler to commit what amounts to a fraud upon their customers. I think NHTSA needs to take another look at this issue.
I am writing to describe 5 incidents within the past year when my vehicle completely shut off while driving. This happened first in May 2012, with a follow up instance in June 2012. After bringing this into the dealership, was told that this was the wireless control module malfunctioning and they replaced. 6 months later, vehicle shut off again while driving without cause. Vehicle shut off again October 2013 while driving at a speed of roughly 20 mph, followed by another shut down at 70 mph in late October 2013. I brought this vehicle into another dealership, who told me that they believed this was an issue with the front control module (after I told them the fix to the wireless control module did not work). Dealership also advised that a recall on the front control module for issues exactly as I described was in place for 2008 Grand Cherokee, but not my vehicle in particular. Upon further investigation with Chrysler, vehicles manufactured Dec 4 2007 - Dec 11 2007 were impacted by this recall. My vehicle was manufactured Dec 3rd. Chrysler refused to cover this under the recall but agreed to pick up the majority of the repair cost. My concern is that this issue is extremely dangerous - I could have gotten into an accident any of the five times that my car shut off without warning. It is very clear that my car should have been covered by this recall but was not. I am very concerned for other drivers of a 2008 Grand Cherokee that fit a similar description of mine - close to manufacturer date of recall but not quite there but having the same problem.
Jeep stalls when traveling. Mostly has occurred when you are slowing down for a stop light but did stall once at speed on the West side highway in New York city. This has happened at least 10 times and has been to the dealership 3 times with no fix in sight. The dealership can not find what the problem is. I have called Jeep and they have not been any help. This problem is affecting a lot of Jeep Grand Cherokee as it is well written on the internet forums. A quick google search on Jeep stall or hemi stall reveals many people with the same exact issue.
The Jeep stalls on the freeway. While driving the Jeep on the interstate, it stalled and restarted suddenly. This was felt by a sudden loss of forward momentum. The Jeep at times stalls flat at freeway speeds and needs to be stopped to restart. This has been in for repairs since January 2013 and it still stalls.

The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which did not generate a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.
