I have a 200 Grand Cherokee Laredo and have loved my car until recently when it put the lives of my children and myself in danger. I was on my way to work and stopped to get some coffee. I was in the turning lane and began my turn into the driveway and my engine cut off, the screens that display my mileage and the gear shift that I'm in went black. The radio was still playing, lights still on, however there was no engine power. The wheel locked up on me and I had to put extreme force in order to turn into the driveway safely as I was crossing over incoming traffic. Thank God that I made it in the driveway.

It could have been an horrible accident. I plan on taking it in to the dealership after the holidays, however, they always say that everything comes back normal. NOTHING about this this issue is normal and it risks lives. Jeep needs to do better! I've heard this from so many people that they never know whats going on with your vehicle. If I'm taking to a Jeep Dealership whom made the product, I should never hear that issue out of your mouth.

The first time the vehicle stopped as I was driving, I wasn't even aware the vehicle had stopped driving. I was trying to accelerate and noticed the vehicle was slowing down. Luckily there were no cars behind me. I put the vehicle in park, cut the vehicle completely off and then restarted the vehicle and everything was fine. This definitely could have turned out another way. Jeep needs to have a recall and a remedy for this ASAP. My husband has a 2008 Grand Cherokee and they have a recall and a remedy for this.

My daughter was driving my car and the vehicle just stopped on her. I'm glad she was not hurt. She was able to cut the vehicle completely off and restart the car but this is not good. Jeep needs to have a remedy for this issue.

My vehicle has just cut off as I was driving. It has happened several times. This time I was driving for maybe 2 minutes and I heard a click and the clock was off and the music was no longer playing. No one was behind me, thank goodness. I was able to put the vehicle in park cut it off and just restart the vehicle, but this very dangerous. My husband has a 2008 Grand Cherokee and his vehicle had a recall for the very same thing. I don't understand why the 2009 vehicles have not been recalled yet?

Its been about 3 months of continual issues with my Jeep, first time I took it in, it was a speed sensor issue, they got it replaced, and it seemed to fix the problem.....temporarily. Every time I accelerated or attempted to at least past 2 rpm, the car would shake/tremble (almost felt like it was going to stall or shut off) and the check engine light (yellow) would flash repeatedly on the dash. This happens EVERYDAY on the turnpike. I brought it in to the Jeep Dealer (Teterboro) and they mentioned nothing was wrong with it. No codes come up on the computer. Good thing they didn't charge my deductible, not like I intended on paying it anyway, ( thought it had something to do with faulty speed sensor again). Now again, today, on my way to work on turnpike, car gives me the same issue as usual, however this time, the check engine light stays on. Not sure what is going on.. Called Service at Teterboro, left on hold for about 5 minutes, only for them to tell me they are busy and if I wanted to leave a voicemail. Still waiting on the call back.

Frustrated!

my 09 jeep grand cherokee V8 Hemi 4x4 limited stalls unexpectedly and frequently. dealerships care more about maintaining their integrity than helping a customer who is put in danger. I will be turning and the jeep stalls, cruising to a stop and it'll stall, even sitting at a light and all of a sudden my engine will die. I have had about $2500 in repairs done to this vehicle and it still has a significant problem. Has anyone else had this? Fixed it? I have a case with corporate right now, but they're as useless as the jeep dealerships themselves because they say take it to a dealer and have them contact us! well with 7 codes being thrown, one would think they would have an idea of what is going on!

The NHTSA needs to know that the problem with Jeep Grand Cherokee's stalling while driving DOES NOT start with 2011 models. I have a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee and had this same problem. The only reason I did not wreck the car when this occurred was because I was only driving about 25 mph at the time on a residential street. I have no doubt that I would have had a SERIOUS accident if this had occurred while on a crowded highway as I lost all power steering and brakes when the engine stalled!

If you have had a similar problem and your Jeep was manufactured before 2011. PLEASE report this problem to help save lives!

This car has been back to the selling dealer six times for the same problem:!shutting off while moving.. They have replaced the main computer, ignition, coils electronic keys, spark plugs, ignition control module. Everything short of a new engine and wire harness. Chrysler is not admitting to this problem in spite of similar complaints all over the internet and worse yet no solutions other than replacing part d'jour every time I bring it back. It has been at the dealer now for three weeks and the service department has no clue how to fix this even though they admit the car did it to them twice in the last three weeks. Do not buy a used 2009 Jeep you will regret it!

Stalling while driving is a serious issue that the automobile company needs to take seriously and fix the problem. If it causes an accident while I am driving, I will hire the best lawyer possible to sue the automotive company. I always trusted my Jeep and would have purchased another, but not now.

Several times took the Jeep to the service department and they didn't catch it stalling driving down the road going 40 and dashboard goes black and have to hurry, put it in neutral so not to cause an accident, very, very, scary! Replaced my spark plugs and coils and charge me $1000 and then the general manager said that those things didn't need to be replaced and still got charged that amount.

They need to do a recall on this Jeep because of the severity of this problem before! I thank God I wasn't going 65 miles an hour down the freeway,,

My 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee began stalling in traffic 2 weeks after replacing my electronic key replaced at the dealership. My vehicle became a death trap, stalling while driving or stopped in traffic or at a light. I took it into the dealership for diagnosis and repair multiple times finding there was no definite fix rather a course of trial and error. I was told it could be one of many possibilities, since computer diagnostics did not display codes typically telling of the cause.

Recommendation was to start with replacing the spark plugs since it also happened to be a scheduled maintenance item and also could trigger this problem. The stalls continued and the dealership could not replicate the problem after multiple times, and the service department manager driving the vehicle overnight for the service manager to drive home. Weeks later the malfunction light came on intermittently giving no indication of the type of warning. Multiple times the vehicle stalled coming short of vehicles swerving to prevent hitting me in the rear. I have checked several websites for answers to the problem, and found this is a common issue with Jeeps. It seems Jeep dealership service centers, independent shops and technicians are familiar with this problem but do not know how to identify the problem.

One month later I attempted to enter the freeway, when the vehicle stalls entering the freeway again, causing lost of power, inability to steer. Fortunately, I was positioned toward the shoulder of the freeway allowing me to coast out of the stream of traffic behind me. I was able to restart it after placing it in park, but a ticking continued sound keep coming from underneath the hood. I could not determine the location. I had to have it towed 52 miles back home at a $ 200.00 expense. Within two weeks it began running with a heavy idle sound and days later the transmission warning light flashed.

Over the next few days a new warning light came on. Wanting to find a way to uncover some resolution my dealership may have overlooked I researched various internet sites coming away astonished by the startling number of consumer complaints to various agencies of chronic mechanical issues mirroring circumstances with my vehicle that most Jeep owner's find no real solution, nor any indication the manufacturer sees reason to investigate the claims. At this point, considering the outrageous number of claims leading to exorbitant cost of foreseeable finding and repair of the issue, and the hazardous situations threatening safety of all on the highway, I felt the risk was too great to keep the vehicle and decided to sell the vehicle as a trade to the dealership for less than the standard value.
