The cv boot at the drivers side wheel failed. Retaining ring holding boot came off causing grease to spill all over inner wheel hub, break caliper etc. I only report it as it could get on the breaks causing a crash. This issue has appeared numerous times across Jeep Grand Cherokee owners with 3/14 and 4/14 build dates as noted in various community forums.

Two days after purchasing my brand new Jeep, I noticed a grease all over the inside of the front passenger side wheel. The other three wheels were normal. Upon closer inspection, I could see that the cv boot had come apart and grease was leaking out of it and onto the wheel, axle, shocks and every other component surrounding the leak. I am specifically concerned that the grease could get on the brake discs, causing for difficulty stopping the vehicle. I took it to the nearest dealer where it was confirmed that the part was defective and I would need a new axle. The part unfortunately is backordered with no estimation as to when it will be available because this problem is a common one and there are new Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge durango owners all over the country who need this very same part for the same issue. There are likely thousands of people driving these vehicles with no idea that their front axles are malfunctioning and it is only a matter of time before it causes an accident that could leave someone seriously injured.

I have a 5 day old car and the cv boot on the front tire has come off, spreading axle grease all over the brakes and other parts of the axle. The dealer service rep says it is unsafe. For the second time in 2 weeks the power steering assist steering failed while driving the vehicle. The instrument cluster gives a "power steering warning" and all hydraulic assistance fails. Within a few minutes of this happening, the engine also gets hot. I live N the Texas hill country. This failure results a large increase in steering effort on the local hilly and curved roads and the ability to take evasive maneuvers if some of the many local wild animals cross the road in front of me. It also affects the ability to maneuver in traffic until the vehicle is brought to a stop. The problem is intermittent and the dealer has not been able to diagnose the problem due to it's intermittent nature. So far, this vehicle has had air suspension failures, power steering failures, and " due not shift transmission" failures and has become a safety issue for me and other drivers around me. I use this vehicle for work related travel throughout multiple states so it gets driven often.

First instance: At vehicle startup, electronic gauge cluster immediately posted "service immediately" warnings for ABS, air bags, 4X4 suspension, parksense, among others. Speedometer was not operational. Unsure if blind spot monitoring was operational. Check engine light remained on. Turning off ignition, opening doors, and waiting several minutes did not clear the issue. After waiting overnight, everything was operable. At first service visit, dealer reconfigured PCM per Chrysler and returned vehicle. Second instance: Approximately two weeks later, the above issue recurred. We could not make it to the dealer and had to drive the vehicle in this condition. A few days later, the issue recurred once more. This time, we were able to drive it to dealer. While service was closed, we asked someone to verify the condition and download codes. We contacted Jeep customer care and was assigned a case manager. At service visit, the dealer stated they were unaware of this ever happening, and I told them I had seen several cases on Jeep internet forums of an ABS module being replaced. After speaking with Jeep, dealer installed new ABS module. Also, we were given a rental Chrysler 300C for one day during this visit, and it failed to start the morning we had it due to an apparent electrical issue and had to be towed from our garage. Just two weeks after the Jeep had the ABS module replaced, we have yet to see recurrence. However, when I asked Chrysler case manager if all systems displayed as needing service during this issue were truly mechanically working or not, she said they "probably" were. When I questioned that response, she stated the best thing to do would be to pull over and have vehicle towed if it happened again. She would not confirm that other vehicles had a similar issue or if the ABS module fix was successful in those cases.
