Like what everyone else has- the terrible whining noise. Two reputable shops said it was my transmission, where one said it was the metal drive belt, but both recommended replacing the entire transmission, around $3,000 used or $4,000 new. The noise exists due to acceleration and speed, no warming up or heat related causes, so it must be something metal-to-metal = no good.

No one wants to cover or even touch my transmission (dealer or car lot), so I guess I have to drive it until it dies and I get stuck in the middle of I75 one morning. On the Jeep forums, some people had their issue fixed my fluid swap, but I believe this whine is a different whine that isn't cured the same way. I thought Jeep meant rugged reliability, not this.

This is where it all started with the whining noise, which I thought I had fixed with some transmission fluid. But I didn't. No check engine light was present at this time.

Patriot Limitied 4 cyl

We purchased in August 2015 as a vehicle for my soon to be 16 year old daughter. We are Jeep people and have had three CJs, two small body style Cherokee, three Grand Cherokees, a Jeep truck and an old Wagoner. Suddenly this week the tranny starts whining so we take to dealership. 15 minutes later they call and say sorry but you have to have a new tranny for $4,000. Call Chrysler customer care all they say is "Sorry"! CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS AND SO DOES PATRIOT! Most car companies would back up their vehicles with a decent power train warranty. Jeep must've known this was bad BC its warranty is only 36k.

LAST JEEP I'LL BUY. Maybe I'll look at KIA or Hyundai. At least they back their power trains with 100K warranty.

The transmission makes a whining noise when I accelerate. If your ready to drive a car with problems constantly and are ready to ignore them, get it, otherwise don't buy it.
