Patriot Limited 2.4L V4

Ever since i purchased my vehicle I had mentioned to dealer service the issue they always mentioned that they are not able to find any problem...I advised them that it occurs once car is driven over 70 miles per hour. Now my car feels as if the gears don't click in and my car has overheated a couple of times.

Patriot Sport 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 56,000 miles

Bought car at 47,000, everything was fine until around 56,000, my electronic throttle control light came on, along with the "service 4WD" light, and the stability control light. Trying to give it throttle would result in the ETC light flashing, and the car being in a "limp mode" where I couldn't go further than 3,000 RPM. I have a manual transmission, so I don't know what it would feel like in an automatic, but it was a pain getting it up to speed. Initially when this occurred, it would either fix itself in a few seconds, or I would have to turn off and on the car, and it would go away, and this would happen every week, sometimes twice in a week, for about four weeks. I first attempted to clean the throttle body based on some websites saying that it may just require a cleaning. After I cleaned it, the problem changed, where I would notice that under 3,000 RPM, it would hesitate giving power. I would have near half throttle and the car would act like the throttle was sticking for a bit before it figured out where it needed to be. Finally after two weeks of that, the series of three lights came on one morning, and the initial problem where the car was in limp mode came back, and I couldn't get it to fix itself. The throttle body needed to be replaced, so I took it to the dealer, where somehow this isn't covered under a powertrain warranty, because of course it isn't. So $300 to get the part replaced, $80 for them to "look at it", and whatever the rest is bringing to a before tax price of $604. Ugh.

Patriot Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

I find it difficult to believe how Jeep just doesn't care about the less costly vehicles that they're putting out. Not everyone can afford the Grand Cherokee, though I owned one, 1994 version, which is still going strong. I've had numerous problems with this vehicle and I'm not too happy. My mechanic told me that he's seen many Patriots, Liberty's and Compass' brought in for things that shouldn't be going wrong with fairly new vehicles.

The latest problem was a wheel stud that broke and wound up in the brake drum. I thought for sure I wasn't going to make it home safely. When I brought it to my mechanic, he said that these vehicles have the strangest things that he's seen vehicles brought in for repair. I definitely WOULD NOT!!! recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a small SUV type of vehicle.
