My wife and I ordered a Jeep Patriot from a dealership. We did our research online using the build it yourself option through the jeep.ca website. When doing so the jeep.ca said the Patriot was to come with a class three hitch, which was supposed to be able to safely tow up to 5000 lbs. There weren't any already made Jeep Patriots with the trailer hitch in Canada, so we had to order from the factory. We were told that it could take anywhere from 8-12 weeks. We decided that we were ok with this because we didn't want any surprises or warranty issues with an after market hitch. The hitch was of key importance since we had purchased a tent trailer weeks before ordering that we needed to tow. The sales staff was made aware of this fact.
We waited nearly 3 month for the Jeep to arrive and without going over it with a fine tooth comb we took it home. While going over the details that night I realized that the vehicle came with a class 2 hitch. I called Jeep customer care ASAP after and also informed the dealership of the issue. After looking into things the dealership informed me that the vehicle was only rated to tow up to 2000 lbs even with the factory hitch. Our medium size 10 foot tent trailer weighed 2300 lbs.
After countless phone calls to customer care, Jeeps official stance is that it's a sales issues and blamed the dealership. The dealership has offered an extended warranty to help compensate for our trouble.
I will NEVER buy a JEEP again. My wife and I are stuck with a vehicle that will not LEGALLY do what we intended it to do because of a mistake made on Jeep.ca in their build it your self option. The Dealership claims that their ordering systems states that it comes with the same class three hitch as well.
WE ordered our Jeep in March 2015. It look JEEP until June 20 something to make a change to their systems. IT TOOK 10 phone calls from them to care enough to make the change. For my trouble, I get to sell ny tent trailer, tow it illegally or buy something else to TOW it.
THANKS for NOTHING JEEP.
