The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel seized. The stability control, traction control, and ABS warning lights were illuminated, and the Service Shifter message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the main battery and auxiliary battery, tested the starter and alternator, and inspected the wires and fuses; however, the failure recurred. The mechanic diagnosed that the ECM needed to be replaced and advised the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was awaiting a tow to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
