I have a 2016 Kia optima SX turbo 2.0. On Saturday, August 19 2023 I was attending my brother-in-law‘s surprise party in Stockbridge Georgia at a lounge. As soon as I pulled into the parking lot of the lounge before I get a chance to park my steering wheel locks up it was hard to turn left & right. And I had to use muscle to turn it to get in a parking spot. I thought maybe it was a fuse but it wasn’t. I got it towed to the Kia dealership on Thorton Road in Atlanta, Georgia on August 24, 2023 and they did a diagnostic test and I was told that two of my parts went bad and these are the two parts that I need. POWER PACK ASSY-M.D.

Part #56320 D5000 & COLUMN ASSY-UPPER

Part #56310D4200.

I didn’t even have this car for two years yet and the engine just went out on the December 2022 and they fixed it for free now my electrical system went out I purchased this car back in March 2022 because I was tired of things going wrong on my old car every other week so I purchased this car so I can just can ride with no problems I haven’t even had it 2 years yet & it having problems. This is making me don’t even want to pay my car note.??????

So this is about the 5th time this has happened. I bought my car brand new from the dealership 3 years ago, it only had 4 miles on it when I purchased it. I keep it maintained, oil changed, new tires - everything up to par, so there's no reason for it to be having any problems whatsoever.

Awhile back, in February, I started to notice some slack in the steering wheel when I'm turning. It gets loose as I turned it right and stiff as I turned it to the left. Then it started acting super weird from there.

Today when I was driving on one of our busiest streets here in Memphis, the steering wheel locked up, I could't steer it left or right! Couldn't even steer to pull the car out of traffic. I noticed the steering wheel sensor lit up on the dashboard. I couldn't pull over so I had to put the car in neutral, letting it coast in traffic, turn it off and crank it again and put it back in drive to keep flowing with the traffic. I was scared to death and thankful I didn't have my daughter or son in the car with me. This isn't the only time this has happened.

I've taken it to two different dealerships only to be told there's nothing they can do because the sensor is no longer on when I turn the car off and crank it again. They told me they can see the code when they plug up whatever the machine is they use for diagnosis (not to mention them telling me they'd charge me $75, even though my car is still covered under the warranty) but can't specify a reason for this. They said because the when they get it the sensor is off and they clear out of the system. I was told to bring it in when the sensor is on but I can't even steer it to get it safely out of the street whenever that happens. I still haven't reached the 60,000 mile warranty and I can't understand why it can't be diagnosed and fixed under the warranty.

If it happens again, I'm calling roadside assistance and having them tow it to the dealership where I bought it, still cranked and I'm telling them I'm not coming back to get it until they fix it. I've invested too much into this car for them not to do something to make this situation right. I honestly believe they're waiting for it to get past 60,000 miles so I can foot a repair bill but I got news for them.

Not gonna be me.
