The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. While the contact's wife was driving 55 mph, the hood suddenly opened. The hood struck and damaged the windshield and roof. The vehicle was towed to griffin motors company (11031 perry hwy, meadville, pa 16335 814-336-2161) where it was diagnosed with a corroded latch that needed replacement. The contact stated that he was not informed of NHTSA campaign number: 16V389000 (latches/locks/linkages) prior to the incident. The vehicle was not repaired due to the manufacturer and dealer stating that the repair cost exceeded the value of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 133,000.

The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 16V389000 (latches/locks/linkages) and 16V389000 (latches/locks/linkages); however, the parts for the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. While driving approximately 55 mph, the hood of the vehicle suddenly opened and smashed the windshield. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the windshield and the hood needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 163,000. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
