Phoned customer service, they tell me that will need to take car to BMW to get checked but would need to pay. My wife drives the car and the steering just seems to cut out. She has had a few shocks and is starting to panic. We can't afford to pay BMW the cost to check the car, as we think they should be liable to have a look. My wife is scared she will have an accident because my teenage daughter is always with her. Just can't seem to get anywhere with BMW, one of the biggest car company's in the world. So not a very happy person. Thanks.

Almost a accident , power steering quit, almost went into another car coming the opposite way. Lucky not far from home, I shut off car and started power steering worked again, so I drove home on a back road very slow.

The problem was completely unexpected. The car worked fine one day, the next day it had no steering - couldn't move the steering wheel. The power steering pump had internal failure and needed to be completely replaced. The problem ocurred while the car was parked in a driveway. It has had every recommended checkup, oil change, etc. in the MINI service manual to date. Living on a fixed income, we may not be able to afford a Mini!
