I have a white Mini Countryman that was a year old when I bought it in 2013. I live in the Cayman Islands and bought the car in Tampa from a dealership (BMW). There is a BMW dealership on the island but they refuse to have anything to do with other Minis not purchased from themselves. I complained to the BMW head office in the Caribbean but they basically said it was up to them which cars they fixed or not.

My car was fine until a couple of years ago. The engine lights come on and stays on - every garage I take it to who supposedly know Minis put it through a diagnostic test and told me I need parts which I bring in from Miami. I’ve replaced the throttle body, accelerator pedal & sensor for the same in the last 4 months. The car is still in the garage after 2 weeks as they don’t know how to fix it. They said they have an expert looking at it, but it can’t be an expert as it’s still not fixed and the lights were still on after replacing the pedal and sensor which was the last to be done.

I’m so frustrated with this, I think I may have nearly replaced every part in the damn car. I want to get rid of it but can’t sell it until it’s fixed!

This car is costing a fortune and I don’t know what to do next.

Cooper Countryman

  • Manual transmission
  • 85,000 miles

This is the fourth time in a year and two months that I have had this car in for major repair. I purchased from CarMax. Within two weeks of purchase, the car basically stopped accelerating at all. I limped it to CarMax who sent it to Mini where they replaced the fuel pumps, flywheel, and clutch.

Several months later I was passing someone and the car stopped accelerating, the check engine light began to blink, and the "full engine power not available" light came on. I took the car to Mini where they stated the issue was spark plugs and coils, which they replaced. About a month later I came out of the grocery store to a car that would not start AT ALL.

I had it towed to Mini where they said I had a dead battery (over $250 to replace!!!) and an oil leak, which they supposedly repaired. Now, just a few months later the check engine light is on (again), the "full engine power not available" is on (again) and it is at CarMax for repair again. Replacing coils, more spark plugs, and potentially the oil pump. This car is a lemon, I don't recommend it to anyone.
