When engine speed falls to idle (with fan and radio and defrost all set to off), all lights in car, and the headlights, will dim. It's very noticeable. When engine speed rises, lights brighten. I've had the car in muliple times to get this fixed. The dealer has recently been in contact with Mitsubishi motors and their techs told the mechanics to check various things (like bad grounds), but nothing has been found to be a problem. Mitsubishi now says that it's "normal operation." This car never used to do this up until around novermber 2000. A person who works at burlington mitsuibishi grabbed a new Galant off the lot, and the lights didn't dim at idle. I also had a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant and I did not have problems with the lights dimming. I don't feel this is a safety issue at this point, but who knows what might happen. I want to sell this car (cause I needed and bought an all-wheel drive car) and I feel that this condition is going to hurt the value of this car. I know that if I were to buy it from someone, I'd not be happy to see these lights dimming at idle. I feel that I'm being strong-armed by Mitsubishi because they don't know what the problem is. So far the altenator has been replaced, and the rest has been testing.

On February 4, 1999 at 11,416 miles, I complained of vibration when braking. According to the service receipt, the brake rotors were resurfaced. On May 20, 1999, I complained of vibration when braking the mileage at this time was 19,394. According to the service receipt, the front rotors were replaced. Again on July 16, 1999, at 26,975 miles, I took my car in for repair a third time for vibration when braking. According to the service receipt, the front rotors were replaced and the rear drums resurfaced. Each time the problem subsided for a while but then returned. On September 9-10, 1999, the dealership again attempted to fix the problem. They indicated that they had received a "technical bulletin" with suggestions for addressing the problem. This time, they replaced the brakes and added some kind of bushings to the steering system. Now I am experiencing a continuous low-level vibration at interstate speeds. In addition, on September 16th, 1999, I began experiencing problems with my headlights. When I use my left turn signal, the lights automatically go to "bright". in addition, the headlights will not go off when the switch is in the "off" position.

Headlights illuminated although the headlight switch was in the off position. This incident occurred while parked and caused the battery to completely discharge, requiring motorist assistance. The headlights were observed to illuminate with the switch in the off position several times after the original incident. This was caused by a defective headlight switch located on the steering column. Due to the defect in the lighting control system, this could cause headlights to function intermittently while driving at night. This would be a safety concern to lose headlight function while driving.
