This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The vehicle has been plagued with a reoccurring intermittent "rubbing" sound when turning the steering wheel. Nissan has characterized the problem as "excessive friction" and "internal failure". to date, they have replaced the rack & pinion steering gear assembly, and associated parts 3 times, 8/97, 7/98 and 1/99. With the last replacement we were told that the rack & pinion being installed was a redesigned one. However, the noise has returned just under a year (10,000 miles) from the last replacement. We are currently attempting to get both the dealership and the manufacturer to address this reoccurring problem again.
