The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Rogue. The contact heard a squeaky noise and felt a vibration emerging from the engine compartment while driving at an unknown speed. Ganley's mayfield Nissan (6060 mayfield road, mayfield heights, oh 44124) diagnosed that the continuously variable transmission failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Updated 10/5/18
The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Rogue. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. Upon depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not accelerate forward on more than one occasion. The vehicle was towed to riverside Nissan (8330 Indiana avenue B, riverside, California 92504) where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The contact replaced the battery, but the failure recurred. The contact believed that the continuously variable transmission was the cause of the recurring failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
On 2/19/14 I purchased a certified pre-owned 2012 Nissan Rogue with 11,258 miles and a 100,000 mile warranty. I am a single mom with 2 children and have returned to school to make a better life for us. My Rogue started losing power when driving, often while in heavy interstate or highway traffic. I will be traveling at 60-75 mph and suddenly, without warning, not be able to go over 40 even with the gas pedal fully depressed. I took it to the dealer on 7/20/18 with 116,225 miles on the odometer. I was informed the valve body assembly, cooler flush kit, evap canister assembly & oil collar assembly need to be replaced. Total cost $4,000 and had to pay $130 for this information! the dealer informed me the digital read out indicated my Rogue had lost power 36 times! a quick internet search turned up many other owners of Nissan with cvt transmissions have experienced the same issue! Nissan has extended the warranty for cvt transmissions on models 2010 and older but refuses to acknowledge the issue continues to plague newer models and will not cover the cost of repairs. This is definitely a safety issue and NHTSA needs to open an investigation. Yesterday I was almost wiped out when I lost power while turning a corner. My children were in the car! multiple reports have been filed with NHTSA with no action. How many need to lose their lives before this is investigated and Nissan is held accountable for faulty cvt transmissions?
Cvt whining noise (high frequency) generated often during accel from 10 to 40 mph. The issue started a couple of months ago. The dealer diagnosed it on Jul 23, 2018 and told me entire cvt needs to be replaced. They said cvt fluids overheated and damaged cvt chain. No warning light or some sort of engine light came on. Also they said cvt cooling kit needs to be installed which didn't exist in the vehicle in the first place. Lots of cvt issues reported from Nissan vehicles. It is 2012 Rogue and 82900 miles. It is tool early for transmission to fail. I think this is major design defect or flaw.
Bought the car used with 50,000 miles cvt is defective so I had a catastrophic failure of the power train I had it replaced.. I M about to have an another catastrophic failure you paid all that and you are to drive the vehicle..when you are driving you could hear the transmission making thundering noise and when shut off the car the transmission is faulty. These is the replacement power train and it faulty

The vehicle was being driven on the highway and the acceleration completely dropped. The car would not go over 20 mph! there was a recall up to 2010 Nissan Rogue for the cvt transmission but doesn't cover 2012. The error was torque converter clutch solenoid circuit intermittent. The Nissan dealership said they don't replace that part and it needs a whole new transmission for $5000. I find it hard to believe other vehicles in 2012 have a recall for the transmission but not the Rogue.
While driving highway speed, engine RPM would go up without hitting accelerator, then no matter how much I pushed the accelerator I could not get the car up to speed to pass other vehicles. Took vehicle to dealership for evaluation. Either need to spend $3000 for a 'transmission fluid cooler' or $4000 for a new transmission.
Salt lake city, ut owner. 2012 Nissan Rogue S AWD, with a cvt. 2015 Oct, I purchased the vehicle use with 96K miles, still within the bumper to bumper warranty (different owner). 2 weeks after purchase during an attempt to vacation, we arrive in St. George with a smoking engine compartment and loss of fluids, loss of speed on freeway. The transmission blew due to it overheating. It over heating due to the poorly manufactured cooling portion of the cvt. Which resulting in the transmission being overheated and "blown". the Nissan dealer in St. George charged my purchased extended warranty for the replacement. June 6th, 2017. (1.5 years later, 7 months outside of warranty and 124,500 miles) traveling to grand junction. Vehicle started mimicking similar issues as prior, again with the loss of speed. Had to replace the cooling portion of the unit. They upgraded it to the "better" version (the external cooler) that would prevent the transmission from over heating. July 7th, 2018. 1 month outside of warranty for the external cooler and 136,907 miles. Traveling to twin falls. Same issues start occurring, again loss of speed on freeway. Took to the dealership on 7/9 where I was advised that my transmission had went into fail safe mode 111 times. Leading to need to replace the transmission once again due to the external cooler not doing its job once again. Loss of speed on a freeway is a safety hazard. Nissan has recalled other models cvt problems, but not the Rogue. Please help us obtain that recall on all Rogue models regardless of miles. I have contact Nissan Consumer Affairs, I opened a case which went to review. Subsequently being denied for "goodwill assistance" on 7/10 at 5:20 pm for assistance on another $5,000 repair due to defective manufacturing due to the vehicle being outside of the 60,000 mile manufacture warranty.
While driving 80 miles per hour on a Wyoming interstate, my 2012 Nissan Rogue shut off the cruise control and would not accelerate even while pushing the gas pedal to the floor. The car would only accelerate to 65 mph and would not reset to normal speeds or acceleration patterns until I pulled off the side of the road and let it cool down for 15-30 minutes. The Nissan dealerships in fort collins, Colorado and billings, Montana said this issue arose in several Nissan Rogues of different years. Nissan fixed 2010 and earlier models on their dime, but have not paid for replacing the transmission coolers with larger coolers for the 2011 or later models. There has not been a recall for the transmission coolers in 2012 Nissan Rogues up to this point.
I was traveling 70 mph on a highway, using cruise, when the engine started racing and the RPM surged. I disengaged the cruise and the RPM's immediately returned to normal. However, as soon as I stepped on the gas, the RPM's again surged. After this happened three or four times, the vehicle would not exceed 60 mph. Fortunately, I was able to exit the highway within a short distance. There was a traffic light at the end of the exit, which was red and I stopped. When the light turned green, my car would not initially accelerate or move. After a short time, the car did then start accelerating and I was able to once again drive. I then stopped at the nearest parking lot. My traveling companion proceeded to find an auto shop that was open, as it was about 7:00 at night. They ran a scan and determined there was a failure with my transmission. I was over 50 miles away from home, on my way to a vacation reservation. Unfortunately, I had to return home. I was able to drive the car on back roads, traveling about 35-40 mph. Since that time I have had a transmission shop and the Nissan dealer also confirm there was a problem with the torque converter and the entire transmission would need replaced. The car had a little over 70,000 miles. I find this entirely unacceptable for a 2012 with that number of miles. Subsequent research has show that Nissan has a history of problems with the cvt transmission. I also found many, many complaints on an array of websites about my particular vehicle having transmission failure at a variety of miles. I also found reports of the transmission failing while traveling at high rates of speed. I did contact Nissan's regional Consumer Affairs. After jumping through their hoops, I was declined any "good will assistance". this was due to the car's mileage being over warranty and no previously documented issues with my personal vehicle's transmission.
Cvt transmission failure. As I was driving on the parkway his car will just slow down to a crawl causing a dangerous driving condition. The car will barely move and many other vehicles have come very close to hitting me due to the slow speed that the car will go. Complained to Nissan but since car is 11 months past warranty was told they will not help even though this is a know problem with these cars.
The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Rogue. While driving, the vehicle would not accelerate past 25 mph. The contact stated that the vehicle began to shake and the transmission seized. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. Serra Nissan in birmingham, Alabama was made aware of the failure and stated that the continuously variable transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving in rush hour traffic, traveling the speed limit (65 mph) when the vehicle began decelerating. The vehicle's speed decreased from 65 mph to 0 mph in less than two minutes. I attempted to accelerate and the RPM indicator advanced; however, the vehicle speed decreased. Without any warning or previous problem, the transmission suddenly died right in the middle of the interstate during rush hour. I was in the center driving lane and was traveling with the flow of traffic. Thankfully, I was able to maneuver the vehicle out of the traffic onto the side of the interstate, where I was stranded for 2.5 hours. Since my vehicle has been disabled, I have conducted research on other Nissan vehicles with cvt transmissions that have had similar problems. There are numerous complaints about the same issues with Nissan cvt transmissions. Moreover, Nissan has had similar issues with the cvt transmission for over a decade. Despite governmental oversight and the company having to correct defects, Nissan continues to manufacture these dangerous vehicles. Life and safety should be a priority for innocent buyers and the general public. My local Nissan leadership has diagnosed and confirmed my vehicle's problem and concluded that the cvt transmission must be replaced. Aside from having a defective transmission, my vehicle is in excellent condition.
Speed limit was 80 miles travel down the high way and the car begin to so down to 5 miles. So I drifted off to the side of the road because a tractor trailer truck was about 6 car links behind me. If this car would have complete stop the truck would have hit the car. I was scared because I never had a vehicle that done this before. I sit along side of the road for about 20 min called my husband because I did not know what was wrong with the car. After 20 mins I restarted the car put it in gear and drive at 60 miles until I got home which was 94 miles. By the time I got home the car was making this strange noise. It sound as if the engine was about to fall out of the car.
Failing cvt (continuously variable transmission) my daughter was driving on the highway at an approx. 65 mph, headed back to college, when her 2012 Rogue stopped accelerating while pushing on the gas peddle. The car would not react to stepping on the gas. It was a dangerous situation in heavy traffic, so she pulled to side of the road. When trying to take off again, it just revved as though in neutral. She turned the car off. After turning the car back on, she was able to accelerate very slowly. Revving sound continued throughout acceleration. She was able to get to her destination. The car was taken to lithia Nissan in eugene, or on April 3, 2018. We live 108 miles from the dealership. As of today, April 18, 2018, the car is still there! the cvt problem was recreated at Nissan and we were told a new transmission was required at a cost of $3000. The warranty ended at 60K and the car has just under 65K. I filed a case with Nissan usa. For some reason the dealership did not capture the proof of failure information. Nissan usa then required the dealership to provide a "video" of the problem occurring. Because the dealership has not been able to capture the cvt issue on video, Nissan usa closed the case. I asked them not to close the case until there was a resolution. They told me without the video for review, they couldn't do anything. They told me to pay the $3000 for the replacement, or continue to drive the car until it happens again, and get it into a dealership immediately so they document the problem while it's happening! I told them it's unacceptable to require my teenage daughter to drive a car we know is going to fail, but can't determine when or where. That's putting her in danger. Research shows the cvt failure is a common problem. Transmissions shouldn't go out at 65K! this is our first Nissan, and we will never buy another one. Recall!
Takata recall - with no warning while driving about 50 mph... car lost propulsion..engine idled but would not catch gear... no engine light nothing... I was in middle of traffic.... I will be getting an assesment this week... unfortunately I am just starting muvresearch for this cvt system for this vehicle..and so far it has been unfavorable
The contact owns a 2012 Nissan Rogue. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle went into neutral and it seemed like the engine stopped without warning. A few moments later, the vehicle drove normally. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 62,000.
At 49,935 miles, the transfer case and drive shaft (while driving) leaked and needed to be replaced at a cost of $1,514 + car rental for 2 days. The engine and power train are covered by Nissan's warrantee only until 5 year,50,000 miles. As I would believe that this is a Nissan design and manufacturing problem, and that other 2012 Nissan Rogue are having similar problems, I would very much appreciate if the NHTSA would investigate this to determine if a recall is warranted. Thank you.
