CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014-2017 Nissan Versa Note has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa Note owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Never had issues until now but I've been randomly having issues with my power steering locking up on me. It's a real dangerous safety hazard because one minute it's normal and drivable. Then I may get back in the car and it's locking up again. I don't have a regular power steering pump, because my car runs off electric power steering. I just really need help figuring out the source of this issue.

Vehicle moves abruptly left and right when moving. Happens most obviously when at high speeds on the highway letting off the gas pedal to slow or coast for a moment and then pressing gas to speed up again. Works the same when shifting (manual transmission) at low speeds. Two independent mechanics acknowledge the issue, but could find no cause or solution--it is not grooves in the road or tires or such things. One mechanic called Nissan, who said they've had similar complaints with this vehicle, but they can't do anything about it. The vehicle is not safe to drive above 30-40 mph as the wobble in the front end is significant as described. It's not the struts, not the control arms, etc. No code comes up for any electronics issue. It is a manufacturing problem.

First time vehicle had just started and steering and brakes were locked. Car was shut down and started again and it was ok. The second time vehicle was pulling out of a driveway into street and brakes and steering locked up. Emergency brake had to be used. My 18 year old daughter drives vehicle and I drive on freeway to work. If this were to happen on the freeway or anywhere in traffic serious injury may result. This model is known for faulty transmissions but not sure if this is related. I am taking it to dealer metro Nissan redlands, ca. On 8/24/19.

Takata recall key won't turn to start engine. Steering wheel is locked. Car was parked at gas pump. Pumped gas. Then key wouldn't turn. I wiggled and wiggled and jerk on steering. Finally it started. Then it did it again later that night. On Sunday I tried it again. Key will not turn to start. Steering is locked. Parked

I got my 2014 Nissan Versa note as a christmas gift from my parents in 2015. My parents did lots of research and was ensured that it was a safe and reliable car for a first time driver. Unfortunately this car has caused me many time consuming problems. I drive a lot to commute to my work. I've been having problems with nasty exhaust smells, slipping gears, delayed shifting, breaks delayed and grinding, and RPM"S shooting up when barely gasses. My commute is quite dangerous with heavy traffic and loads of semis passing one another. It really worries me and makes my fear for my safety when I've been having all of these problems I really shouldn't have with this new of a car. Bakersfield Nissan had my car trying to fix it for a week and a half really putting a monkey wrench with my commute to work. They eventually had to replace the transmission and cv boot. Now I am having new problems and lots of grinding and rattling. They told me my car failed to replicate anything but the RPM"S shooting up. It really frustrates me knowing this car only has 50,000 miles on it!!!!!!! please help me figure this out

Was driving on highway during stop and go traffic and engine cut off completely while the car was in drive. Put car in park, and try to restart but vehicle would not restart and had to be pushed to the side of the road during traffic. Made several attempts to restart vehicle and it would not start. I let car sit for 30 minutes and car finally restarted. I took the car to dealership on 7/6/15 and they adjusted the idle but could not diagnose the issue. On 8/8/15, I was leaving a store and started to yield to turn onto a busy street and the car completely died again. I took the car on 8/11/15 to Nissan dealership and they reprogrammed the ECM, but did not say that would permanently fix the issue. I'm an extremely concerned consumer as I have seen several post online from consumers for this very issue, and I don't feel Nissan has done their part to diagnose the issue. Being that the car shuts off unexpectedly with out forewarning, I'm concerned should this shut down occur when the vehicle is traveling at a high speed a fatality could occur.

While traveling out a country road, I was coming up to a stop sign at the bottom of a hill. When I made an attempt to stop, I had no brakes what so ever. I could see that there was no traffic coming from either direction so I made an attempt to make the turn on to the roadway but had no steering either. With no way to control the car I ended up going straight through the stop sign, across the road, through a tree stump and into the side of an abandoned house. With the impact the airbags did not come out even with an impact great enough to cause suspension damage along with other major body and structural damage to the front and passenger side of the car. This is the second time with this vehicle the air bags did not come out, the first is when my husband hit a deer head on at 55mph and air bag sensors had to be replaced due to them being triggered. About a week before, I lost power steering while making a low speed turn but car quickly recovered. The dash and radio has flashed several times on and off and while attempting to accelerate from a stop the car acts as if it has no power and shutters before finally picking up speed. The dealerships service department stated that there is nothing wrong with the car and would send us on our way and when asked about the non air bag deployment they just stated that sometimes it happens, well now it has happened twice.
