My engine leaks oil from the engine case and burns off and smokes badly. I've been told that the valve cover gasket needs replaced and it sounds like about $300-$400 job. I've read all over the net about people having the same issues with Toyota Avalons around this year. The oil builds up like SLUDGE as it's referred to allover the valve seal crevice that runs horizontal along the engine block. I check the oil very often and it does not go leak a whole lot but the burning off starts as soon as the engine has barely warmed up and smokes into the car and will asphyxiate you if you don't open a window. I hope that Toyota will eventually recall or fix this problem.

Avalon DX V6

six cylinder engine began smoking and consumed oil very quickly. clogged PCV with oil in PCV line. replaced PCV,..... did not fix problem, even after driving over 200 more miles, still smokes and still consumes oil. Smoke is blueish and heavy at start most likely oil burning. Car runs great and smokes sometimes, not all the time while driving. No consistency on smoking patterns. Cold starts, sometimes and next time no smoke. Hot starts smoke less frequent. One time a lot of smoke, next time, none. Noticed i lost two quarts in three weeks not much miles
