Car was in a parking lot idling in "Park". Passenger got in and buckled up. I shifted the auto trans lever to Reverse. The engine suddenly was accelerating forward, striking a bench. I still had my foot on the brake but was unable to stop the forward movement. I put the car back in Park and shut off the car. I restarted the car, clicked it into reverse and back down from the bench. The car operated properly. I checked the mats while waiting for the tow truck and there didn't seem to be a problem. The police and tow truck driver both said that they have had experience with Toyota's doing this. I looked online and sure enough, this is a problem. I don't want to drive this car anymore and don't want to sell it and other people to get hurt.
