CarComplaints.com Notes: The Camry Hybrid's first year is a mixed bag of brake actuators failing and power issues. The hybrid version even shares the same excessive oil consumption as its non-hybrid counterpart. And it hardly gets enough fuel efficiency gains to warrant the extra costs up-front or during repairs.

Toyota seemed to get their act together with later model years, so if you're looking for a used Camry Hybrid I suggest looking there.

I started to feel sticky spots on the top-side dashboard facing windshield. The soft, sticky spots were accumulating light-colored dust over the past year. They were not greasy, but extremely sticky and tacky to the touch. The accumulated dust was not cleanable or able to be removed without damaging dashboard material. (I rubbed off the top layer of plastic trying to gently clean with a wet poly towel). They were starting to reflect off my windshield during daytime driving. I ignored this issue for a while but lately noticed the interior glare is getting worse toward the front of my dashboard at the windshield junction. It's especially present on bright days where the sun is high up. This is presenting a potentially serious safety issue with regards to outward driving visibility. Toyota has been contacted and I started a problem case with them. I am awaiting further instructions on what Toyota wants to do next with my vehicle. A special "warranty enhancement" has been started to address this "cosmetic concern." Please look into this potentially serious safety issue to ensure Toyota is addressing this problem appropriately and expeditiously for owners.

The dash on my 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid is melting, leaving a thick liquidy, shiny surface that reflects the sun and makes driving unsafe. There is no visor that will protect me from reflections from this sticky shiny mess. Thousands of people have this, and Toyota is not stepping up to the plate and acknowledging the defect in materials that is causing this safety issue.

I have a 2007 Camry hybrid. The dashboard is constantly sticky and it feels like it's literally melting away. Especially when it gets hot, I can gouge out the plastic. I talked to the local dealer, and he said I would have to replace the dash. Doesn't seem like its normal wear and tear. Also creating a shine which is causing a glare on the windshield. Concerned about reduced visibility and air bag deployment.

The dashboard on my 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid is melting! it creates a glare on the windshield which is distracting and dangerous. Anything placed on it sticks. Just touching it with a fingernail causes indentations and nicks.

The dashboard on my 2007 Toyota Camry has been melting since August of 2012. Since it has started melting the dash is very reflective in sunny weather making it difficult to look out the front windshield. The glare has almost caused me to get in an accident on two different occasions.

My dashboard is sticky and shiny. It impairs visibility. Last summer I had to have my air conditioner repaired and when he took dash apart it was stuck to the other components (like the radio) and it kind of tore the dash board. Seems to be getting worse.

The dashboard is melting apparently because of the warm weather in Florida. The melting plastic has developed a shine/reflection that reflects on the windshield making it extremely difficult to observe roads and other cars. This is definitely a safety hazard and must be corrected for safety reasons.

The dashboard of my car is melting. When you touch it, it feels like flypaper. It also places a glare on the windshield when the sun hits it just right causing a safety concerns. (I actually have to place a piece of cloth on the dash to prevent the glare and pray I can peel it off when I park my car.)

The dash board that houses the air bags seems to be melting and sticky. I am concerned that my air bag will not deploy. I talked to two Toyota dealers and neither said that they have heard it happened before. Toyota 101 dealer said that it was caused by the interior protection that piercey Toyota applied when I bought it 7 years ago. If it was the protection spray, I think the stickiness and melting would have began years ago. Also, the paint on my car is bubbling up and Toyota 101 is blaming it on the paint protection piercey Toyota applied when I bought the car 7 years ago.

The dashboard of my 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid is melting!! the melting is creating a glare on the windshield making it very hard to see at times. A simple internet search will yield you 100's of results of the same complaint for this make/model. Toyota is aware of the issue as they have changed the material used on the dash. My inquiries to Toyota Corp and the dealership where I bought my vehicle are not being taken seriously and I really fear that the visibility issues can result in death or accidents. Currently, there is a class-action lawsuit for their sister company, Lexus, regarding the recalling of their dashboards using the same exact material. It is unfair that Toyota Corp is only addressing the needs of their luxury model car owners and creating an environment that is unsafe for me and my children. April at Toyota Corp told me today that it's not a craftmanship issue- it's the climate in which I live. The negligence in this matter is so apparent and I am disappointed that they are allowed to get away with this. This is my second time dealing with Toyota Corp on this issue. The previous time was in September of last year.

The dashboard of my 2007 Camry is melting. It is very sticky and parts are also very shiny causing a glare. Toyota says they have no current program to resolve this so I they expect me to pay 2200 to replace the dashboard. My dashboard is very sticky, shiny and melting. It is so shiny that it makes a glare upon my windshield, impairing the visibility. I have only used a damp cloth to clean the dashboard. I googled this condition and found many other Camry owners of 07, 08, and 09 year cars from Hawaii, us mainland, and australia that have problems with their dashboard melting. It is soft and sticky at nighttime and in the shade also. This is clearly defective material used for the dashboard. I am concerned abut fumes from the melting material when entering the car when it is hot. I believe Toyota should replace this as it is not covered under warranty, even if it was still under warranty.

I recently purchased a '07 Toyota Camry from my mother. It still has warranty. I haven't taken it in yet, but the dashboard is melting. I was in an underground parking deck away from home. I was putting an address into my gps while resting one of my fingers on the dashboard while I typed. I went to remove my finger and realized that my fingernail was stuck in the dashboard. A couple of days later I was loading some thin bamboo stalks (less than 1/4 inch thick) and they gouged holes my dashboard. I am very sad. I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.....apparently so...and some sound much worse than mine. I hope they will fix this.
