The drive shaft problem was a manufacturer's defect. A "thump" occurred when stopping quickly, which alerted me to the problem. Consequent to this problem, extensive repairs were needed to the ball joints, rocker arm etc. (Yes, I have the bills to prove it.) Toyota basically said that because I went to my own mechanic (who recommended the vehicle in the first place!) they wouldn't reimburse any of the cost of repairs. I am in my mid-fifties, with a flawless driving record. I do not tow anything with this vehicle, nor do I go off-road with it. It has had all highway driving. The 4-wheel drive system also went on the vehicle 2 years ago. This is my third Toyota - and my last (unless Toyota reverses its policy of not respecting outside mechanics' work and offers a partial reimbursement). One other thing...the replacement part had to come from California - and they refused to rush the shipment. My mechanic lost one of his bays for over a week waiting for the part. This is an atrocious way to treat a long-standing customer (my first Toyota was a 1978 gold station wagon). This vehicle has been a total lemon. Oh...now the heater isn't working properly...What do you think THAT's going to cost me???

We bought this vehicle thinking it would be durable - safe, reliable, worry-free. When it's actually working it's a fine vehicle. I am profoundly disappointed in Toyota.
