Toyota acknowledges brake booster pump defect in their Prius but will not recall. Will only supply limited warrantee, but only if your brakes fail within a limited time and mileage framework. I missed coverage by a mere 10,000 miles. This is a dangerous situation. Failing brakes are not to be taken lightly. Toyota should be ashamed.

Prius 4

I was going 25 mph around 7:30 pm est when 4 lights (brake, traction, ABS & caution) came on dashboard. Pulled over on shoulder and turned ignition off. I restarted it & the lights are still on. Went to the dealership & was told the brake booster assembly is leaking fluid. Parts & labor will cost $3500. I was upset to say the least.

Prius 1.4L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

While driving home on a busy highway this past weekend, suddenly the master warning light comes on, brake warning light, ABS light, SLIP Indicator light, etc. A loud ringing noise begins as well and we lose our hydraulically powered brakes (brake pedal needed to be suppressed very hard to get the car to slow down). As you can imagine, this was a pretty scary moment with no warning given that we had a potential issue. In fact, at our last visit to a Toyota car dealership for regular service, we were told that a master technician said our brakes were in great shape.

After having my car towed to Stevinson Toyota in Aurora CO, I was informed our Brake Actuator needed replaced and would cost $3400.00. They also mentioned I might need to replace a brake pump.

A $3400 repair bill seems more inline with serious engine work, not brakes. I did independent research to see if the dealer was abusing me with this quote. I learned that Toyota paid to fix this SAME EXACT ISSUE on Prius models from 2004-2009, over 600k prius cars in total (warranty enhancement program ZG1). I was extremely displeased to learn that you are covering this replacement on cars up to 10 years old or 150,000 miles. My car is a 2010 with 90k miles and does not qualify.
