While on vacation, we suddenly hear a really loud rattling and scraping sound coming from underneath the car. We pulled into a parking lot and got underneath the car to see what was wrong. There was a maybe 15" x 2", thin metal bar that was hanging off the bottom of the underside and dragging on the ground. We pulled the rest of it off and threw it in the car and took it to a mechanic when we got back. Turns out that it was the strap that keeps the gas tank protected in the event that the tank comes loose so could have been really serious. We've had a lot of problem with rust on the RAV, this just being one example.
