CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 RAV4's top complaint is that the navigation screen is impossible to see in direct sunlight.

While certainly an annoyance, it's not a big deal in the world of car problems. Luckily the fix is a $10 anti-glare screen cover.

I Detailed cars years ago. It is clear to me and the body shop man at Wray's Auto Body in Bedford, VA. that the clear coat was not put on in correct way. It has turned white-ish on the top, and now speading to the hood.

I wash and polish my vehicles. So, this is a factory problem. Help would be appreciated.

paint is coming off

My boyfriend bought me this vehicle on 02/29/2016 as a late Christmas gift!! I loved it until I noticed that the paint was peeling off!! I went to the dealer, "Fuccillo" on Grand Island, and ask if they had ever seen this happen before.... They said NO, and then avoided me like the plague!! It seems that they used the wrong primer on the white Toyotas for years!! Soon I will have No paint on the roof of the vehicle that still has years of payments!! You would think that "Toyota" would want to keep their customers happy??? I am so PISSED off that they think this is nothing!! I am hoping to get some kind of satisfaction, because I don't want to be driving around in a vehicle that is "bald"!! I know that cars rust eventually, But Seriously??? Any solutions out there??? HELP :)

I am so upset with this issue and when I searched and found other complaints then I thought recall. Toyota takes no responsibility. Had I known of this complaint I would have never purchased the vehicle. Very disappointed with this High quality company...I don't consider this high quality. What's next??? I'd say Class Action but they're not doing anything about the class actions against car companies products that are killing people.

paint is coming off

I purchased a Rav4 on Belise Toyota of Warwick RI on May of 2016. I've only had this Toyota 2 years and I have already had to get a new transmission and now the paint is just chipping away on the right side back door. There are other spots on the car as well that the paint is chipping away but it has not gotten to a point of this picture I have uploaded.

I called Toyota right away they want to blame rocks on the highway. Well rocks on the highway would not make this paint come off like you're removing a layer of skin. Toyota has tons of complaints about white Rav 4 paint issues and instead of doing a recall they pray on the customer to spend all their hard money on an auto they are still paying on.

I am a single mother of two i cannot keep getting loans to fix this Toyota. The sales person on the Balise Toyota Warwick even sold me this car knowing it had issues and over priced me. He prayed on me since I am a single mom and went there alone and was desperate for a car. Now his has been the worse hardship I have endured. It is not fair.

Sales people should be held to a standard just like doctors when selling cars. They should tell you everything and also a company like Toyota in which every one thinks is the best should do its best to sell the best not crap. This is not fair just to fix one door will cost me about $800 and what happens when the rest of the car paint starts chipping away?

If I were to trade in the car for something more liable they will probably give me like $4k on this car but I still owe $14k. This is not fair. Toyota needs to do the right thing and take responsibility.

i love my car and have never had a problem with it, but in December the paint on my door starting falling off. Now in January it is starting to fall off the back rear. I took it to a body shop and he said to talk to the dealer because this is a paint fault and Toyota will cover it. He said it would cost about 1800 dollars to fix and my insurance said it does not cover paint. I think the Rav4 is one of the best cars you can buy and I would buy another one in a minute, it just has a paint problem.

Bought the RAV 4 from Herb Chamber"s BMW in Sudbury, MA. Was used with 81,000 miles. 1 owner, Clean Carfax, perfectly maintained mechanically. Service record verified at Dealership. (Acton Toyota- Littleton, MA)

I worked for Toyota Corporate in New England for 12 years '93-05... So I know the quality and rules and have connection with the Boston Region in Mansfield, MA.

Anyway, the car was for my son. Purchased in November 2017. 2 small items were fixed by dealer after delivery. In August of 2017, I noticed a "paint bubble". I bought touch up paint... never applied any because the bubble spread like wildfire. See photo's. I sent several emails to dealership. They stated today 11-19-2018 that it is a factory paint defect. I called a Toyota Rep in Mansfield and started the process for Toyota to look at the vehicle. I am bring the vehicle to and Authorized Toyota Body Shop to see what the cause of the paint peeling is from.

I will update the information after my visit to the Toyota Authorized Body Shop.

paint is coming off

Opened a case with Toyota - got the same "we've never heard of this issue" response. Started a Facebook page to try to organize all these various forums into one place to get their attention. Join me!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/288416678661392/

Update from Jan 17, 2019: After my problem getting progressively worse, my local Toyota coordinated the repainting of my roof on Toyota's nickel. Key to the resolution was that I'm a loyal customer for them and they stood to lose my service dollars - otherwise, I'm afraid this would have gone nowhere. For now, my paint is okay again...who knows how long until the delamination starts again and I'm back to square one?!

From talking to several body shops, this is a common issue and the problem is the errant use of chemical- versus water-based paint and primer...the two don't adhere, basically.

The Facebook page that I created (Toyota/Lexus/Scion Blizzard Paint Peels And They Won't Fix It ) is getting lots of sign-ups as there are LOTS of people with this issue!!!

paint is coming off

I have never seen paint fall off from a vehicle before! I have owned many vehicles over the years and while rust happens in central NY, I can HONESTLY tell you I have never had paint just fall off a car! I took it to the dealer- Romano Body Shop in Syracuse and was treated poorly by the woman behind the desk. She had told me I did not need an appointment and to just bring it over 2 Fridays ago and a body expert would be available to look at it. So I did. I got there and there was no one to look at it. Instead, this woman with a snarky attitude came out to look at my 2013 Rav4- walked around it and told me I had to call the 800# in the back of the book and there was nothing they could do for me. I asked her to point the number out for me in the book and she in a SNIDE tone said- well I would have to look for it too! I am so disappointed in Toyota- this was my first and last purchase! Toyota obviously does not car about their customers. So I took it to a body paint expert and he investigated and discovered the paint was poorly applied at the factory- showing me signs of proof. I know there is a recall for 2015- I think it would behoove Toyota to go back and look at this year too!

Just below base of passenger side front window, paint began flecking off down to gray primer. Had not been in accident or dented by another object. Same thing in front of the sunroof on roof. Nothing damaged it just is flecking off. Both have grown to about 3" x 3". Other areas where paint had been chipped all have begun to fleck off with no adhesion and these are along the sides and front and hood of vehicle. St Charles Toyota Dealer said Toyota has offered me $1,500 to repair but their preferred body shop says it will be at least $3-4,000. Then Dealer rep in service said that if I could find someone else to repaint / repair then St Charles Toyota would ante up $1,500. Very reputable body shop in area told be that just painting it would be a waste of time unless stripped down and repainted. Also that this was a "Goodwill" gesture as it is not normally covered. My next step is to contact Dealer-Owner although I am not anticipating anything other than an offer to buy my car and to buy a new one. I paid cash for mine with extended warranty. The paint color may have some significance as it is Pearl White.

How is that for my 1st Toyota Experience??
