CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 RAV4's top complaint is that the navigation screen is impossible to see in direct sunlight.

While certainly an annoyance, it's not a big deal in the world of car problems. Luckily the fix is a $10 anti-glare screen cover.

I had bought the Rav 4 on May of 2016 and just last year I had to replace the transmission because while I was driving the car just slowed down and accelerated but did not move and then it stopped. It turned on but when I placed it on drive it would go backwards.

Crazy how a 2013 auto you just bought in two years already had to replace the most expensive thing on it. Toyota would not help me because my warranty was only until 100k miles.

What a coincidence. Worse experience I've had with any car has been with this one. And this is the 3rd thing that's happened to me already with this car.

RAV4 XLE 2.5L Inline 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,000 miles

At 86,000 miles my 2013 Toyota Rav4 had a complete transmission failure. It wouldn't shift into reverse and between gears 2 and 3 the engine would bog. I brought it to the dealer to diagnose the problem and they said it was between $5000-10000 to rebuild or get a new transmission. I always brought in the car to get serviced as the manual suggested and this is what happens. Corporate couldn't help so my best solution was to trade in a 4 year car I was planning to keep for 10 years.
